notary training

Hello, I am a new member, and a new notary in Oklahoma. Here in Oklahoma there are no required classes or training to become a notary, the SoS simply provides a guide booklet with your commission. Would it be beneficial to take the training programs from other states, such as California, to gain some overall notary training while keeping the Oklahoma guidelines as the overriding application for my commission?

I think it would help you to get some basic training. Just keep in mind that each state is specific, so you want to keep your state guide close by to confirm or reject what does or does not apply to you.

My suggestion is to take the ASN's All-States Notary Education Course at www.notaryeducation.com, AND to be sure to carefully read the statutes governing
your state. The All-States Course is an excellent instructional tool, covering standard and even not-so-standard notarial procedures that are common to most states. By combining specific state statutes with the All-States Course material, youwill have a comprehensive view of your permitted duties.

Any notary who cannot access their state's statutes on the web is always welcome to contact the ASN for assistance.

Also new members to the ASN receive the "Notary Practice Information Kit") which
contains a fact sheet covering stamp/seal requirements, authorized duties, etc.
that's specific to the new member's state

If anyone would like a membership application form giving them an extra two months (14 months instead of 12), please let me know and I will be happy to fax one over to you. This offer is good to the end of the yearSmiley

I am a proud member of ASN and I think Notaries who are serious about their Notary craft, profession, vocation, etc. belong to this organization. The "American Society of Notaries" is an orgainzation that truly understands Notary Law in all 50 states. Their once a month emails are always correct and generally get me thinking.

I wish they had a 24 hour hotline as the NNA does because the NNA response to questions is not always correct and this is from the chat lines and other Notaries I personally know.

I am a member of NNA ( my membership expires in 2008) and have used their hotline when I was a new notary and I personally never got incorrect advice.

If your are interested in being a truly "professional notary" I suggest you join "The American Society of Notaries."

Welcome to the profession from one okie to another. I agree with Joan, use the ASN.
The Moore/Norman Vo-Tech teaches a very good course for Mortgage Loan Officers which are regulated by the state. All you ned is the baic course.

Hi Sylvia - I would appreciate a fax of the www.notaryeducation.com membership app form giving us an extra 2 mos. if you wouldn't mind (unless I could just get it online) - my fax # is 610-783-5517.

I also want to say that I really appreciate your input on this board - I've been reading it since about May and feel like I've learned so much from your messages as well as others - thanks for taking the time to share your experience!

Kathy

You can apply online to join the ASN, however you wouldn't get the two free months! So I will fax you over the application form so you can get the two free months.

I am an instructor for the ASN (I teach the notary education classes - you have to have a 3 hour notary education class to get your commission here in Florida) and those are the application forms I hand out to the students. (But it is OK for you to have one too, and anyone else who would like one)
