Foxfire was on the national news either from CNN/MSNBC about a month ago. Foxfire was developed by a group of computer student from some universities with a quest for an internet environment user friendly. The news also mentioned they are slowly taking a chunk out of Bill Gate's market share on MS Explorer.
I'm checking them out as we speak.

I've been using Firefox for about 6 months now. It was recently released (ver 1.0) and is pretty stable and complete. It has some nice features and missing some things I used in IE, but it certainly has kept the junk (pop-ups, etc.) from invading. I have found a few sites that do not support the Mozilla Firefox environment. For that, there is an extension to allow you to open the site in an IE window (and vice versa).
Since it's release, I have made Firefox my primary browser. It's a great piece of work.

Paul,
I just downloaded Firefox and don't see the extension to open a page in IE. Could you please tell me where to find it?

Re: What about Thunderbird??
My son uses it and likes it.
He's the one that finally got me to it and switch.

You will need to install the extensions. On the menu, select TOOLS -> EXTENSIONS -> GET MORE EXTENSIONS. From there you can pick and choose which ones you like.

I've been using Firefox as my primary browser for a couple of months. Like Paul, I find a few sites that don't work with Firefox. One is vmpdelivers for vmp e-docs.... need to use IE.
