Frustrated

I do quite a few signings for 2 escrow officers at a particular title co. Last month I got a call from another escrow officer I had never worked with in the same office. I thought it was a great opportunity to increase my business and hopefully become one of their preferred notaries. I accepted the assignment excitedly.

I called this escrow officer yesterday to ask about payment because the invoice is now over 40 days old. After getting the runaround I was told that the loan didn't close. I told him that I thought it was unusual since the borrower was thorough with the documents and didn't indicate to me that there were any discrepancies. He then said that he would have to research it and figure out what happened because now he wasn't sure. I, ofcourse, never got a call back. I have a feeling he's lying to me. Anytime I've done work for the other escrow officers they've paid me within 10 days.

I want to press the issue because I had to rearrange my schedule to accomodate this person in hopes of getting more business from them. At the same time I don't want them to bad mouth me to my regular clients in the office. Hence, I'm frustrated. ughh!

Is it possible to check the county recorders office online to see if the Mortgage/DOT recorded? At least then you would have an idea of the truth instead of wondering whether he/she is lying or not. Whenever I have late payments, I always check my recorders site before I call for collections in case someone tries to tell me it didn't close.

If you think he is lying then call the borrowers and ask if the loan closed. Would not worry about him bad mouthing you since you do lots of business with 2 other LO's from the same company.

Please check your county recorder first

No need to drag the borrowers into it at this point. THAT might very well lose your other 2 escrow officers if the borrower decides to complain.

Re: Please check your county recorder first

If you are polite and professional the borrower is not going to complain to anyone especially if the loan closed and funded as scheduled.
If the loan did not closed the borrower is still not going to complain about you if you were professional during the closing. Just tell them it is your company policy to do a followup call to make sure there were no problems.
