HP 1320 & HP 3030

CompUSA has the HP 1320 advertized (Los Angeles Times Sunday edition) for $399.00 and a $40 instant gift card and better yet has the "all in one" HP 3030 priced at $499 with an instant $50 gift card. I think this price for the HP 3030 is the cheapest I've seen it.

I have a HP 1300 (HP 1320 is the latest version) with a dual tray and it cost me approx. 5-6 months ago $349.00 plus $75 on Ebay to get the 2nd tray.

The HP 3030 is an all in one unit: scanner, copier, fax, laser printer for $499.00 including the gift card for $50.
My guess is HP is going to upgrade the 3030 and this is the reason it is being priced at $499 but, this is just a guess. I don't know if the 3030 has a dual tray.

If I had bought the HP 3030 I could get rid of my copier and laser fax machines

I use the Brother HL 5140 (for docs) and my old reliable HP T-45 all in one (faxing & personal printing). The HL 5140 cost $179.00 (free shipping) from Monarch Technology.com It is as complient to the doc needs as most HPs (pcl6e). The HP is pretty old (1999 & 100's of appraisal reports printed on it), I's time to start thinking of something to replace it with.
Would you suggest as a second printer.

I bought a Brother HL-5170 a couple of weeks ago and can't get it to distinguish btw letter and legal. Anyone have any experience with this model or should I just print everything on legal?

I bought the HL 5140 w/dbl. tray. I coundn't get it to print legal till I discovered .pdf files. If u don't have a dbl. tray I would suggest every thing legal when printing docs. U might look into Docuharbor.com. Faxes that come to u .pdf. better if u have the second tray then u can print both in the same printing.

I just went throught the same thing with an HL-5170DNLT. Set up the printer preferences for for 8-1/2 x 11 in your tray 1 and legal in your tray 2 and default source = auto select. When you print from ms word, for example, if you print from file/then page setup, it will recognise your request for legal or regular.
or....if you choose file, then print....when the print screen comes up you can click properties (top right) then click your mouse on the upper or lower tray of the printer picture to choose what tray to use which will contain your different size paper. hopes this helps...Harold

I bought an HP 3330 for the same deal ($499 w $50gift card) about a year ago with an online sale from Office Max. The only difference, I believe, is the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) shown in the picture, but I don't think included with the 3030. That has come in VERY handy. Sometimes instead of printing a set of documents twice, I just print one set, then put them into the ADF and copy another one. (I usually do it in sections, though.) I thought that that model was being discontinued and the numbers were changing to ?? 3380 ?? (or something like that) with the newer version. Don't know for sure. I've been very happy with mine. (I also have a smaller, much cheaper Samsung laser I use to print confirmations, maps, etc., so I can be doing that while docs are printing.)

Oops! I goofed...

I looked again at the spec page Paul gave the link to and it DOES include the ADF. Sorry. Bottom line, I thought it well worth the investment for this price -- if you need the other "all-in-one" capabilities...

CompUSA

Great post!
I can't believe I bought the HP Laser 1300(4-6 months ago at $349.00) when the "all in one" was available one year ago at $499.00 with the gift card."

When I read the LA TIMES Sunday AD for CompUSA 12/26/04 I thought $499 was a steal.
Well this is a major "DUH."
I apologize!

Re: CompUSA

For what it's worth, I think the original price was around $700, so it still may be a very good buy. Clearly, I haven't exactly kept up on the latest, though! ;>)
