I had to look that up! Then I got confused when I saw the word "Etymology" and believed it to be "entomology."

Just thought you were calling me a bug there for a minute.

Never thought about being a bug...but I would not mind playing one on Tv.

-------------------------

Main Entry: in·ter·mi·na·ble
Pronunciation: (")in-'t&rm-n&-b&l, -'t&r-m&-
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Late Latin interminabilis, from Latin in- + terminare to terminate
: having or seeming to have no end; especially : wearisomely protracted <an interminable sermon>

I like that dog a lot. She's a good 'un.

MaureenNH and I have exchange pictures of our pups. They look so much alike that I had to put pictures of them both up.

You can link to my dog at this one.

Cute, a whole new language.

This long list of acronyms I do not know reminds me of a frustrating childhood moment...

When I was a little notary of around four years old, my grandmother used to spell to keep me from knowing what was being said. It drove me nuts.

Finally, one night I had an idea that I should tag along with my grandfather when he went to pick up the usual Schlitz Tall Boys from the local Minute Market. He always gave me a little money to spend while he visited with the man that owned the store. So, I prevailed upon him to buy me a small note tablet.

The next morning must have been Saturday. My aunt was visiting. A word was spelled and I started repeating it to myself and hurried for my tablet. I remember using a purple crayon to write. Probably the only thing I could find in a hurry.

They had no idea what I was doing. I am sure this note taking looked very interesting because I wrote my name (thus, my letters and numbers) in a perfect mirror image, right to left, and backwards until first grade.

I finished recording the all important word they spelled and headed for the door. They asked me where I was going and I said I had to see the neighbor. I almost made it before my grandmother saw the backwards written word and put a halt to my covert spell-spying.

After that certain words were said in "pig latin" to keep me from making notes.

True story. I swear.

That cracks me up and reminds me of when my son was 3. We used to write down or spell out desserts we were going to have after he went to bed. My son used to get so mad, so I told him that when he could spell what he wanted, then he could have dessert with us... he grabbed a pen and paper and scribbled down MM.... now we use sign language! There's a little guy inside my computer who loves this stuff, he eats it up. I have to feed him or he makes my computer crash...really! NO KIDDING! He just freezes up like a stiff kid having a trantum on the hall floor. So, whenever I see this kinda stuff I feed it to him. I have a list of all the words that Hugh uses to replace the word "said" too. He really likes those, it makes him sleep for hours.

Colorless,
Well, it sounds like you have fed your computer quite a meal, so it should keep right on working.

I would love to see the list of Hughs "said" words-I too have been trying to keep track of them, but get lost with so many.
TIA,
kathy

Yes, quite a list. But I'm afraid, alas, that my list of Hughsaids is not for public consumption. It is filled to the brim with personal comments and the numerous definitions I had to look up in order to understand his kaleidoscopic writing skills, which I very much admire. It was to honor Hugh that I chose the handle "colorless." My writing is completely colorless in comparison to his. I wish I could write so well, think so well, do so well, as he. He is not my mentor, nor do I know him, except through his words here on this board. His posts are the first ones I read. His advice is that to which I attend most. IMHO he truely deserves his royal title. I only wish that some day I will learn enough for him to knight me. Thanks Hugh.

After re-reading my last post, I think I might have gone a little too far. Please don't think I have any designs on Hugh. As I said, I can't write right.

Hugh, if I embarrassed you, I apologize, a lot!!! I just think you are a great writer and since I suck at writing, I admire yours and wish I could write as well as you do.

I also think Brenda is great at writing. Her style is very different. She can reach into your heart and tickle your funny bone at a moments notice. Quick wit and lots of it. Homespun humor at its best. I could never write like her, either. She makes me feel good, she makes me smile, she makes me think of something besides myself and my problems. When I read her writing I stop taking myself so seriously, I let go and relax. This whole board makes me relax. Thanks to all of you.
