New Notary - Looking for Education
It took me over a year from passing my test to actually getting my commission, and from reading some of the postings here, I am overwhelmed with what I need to know to do a good job. Is it best to take a basic Notary class, or should I approach an established Notary for mentoring? I am in Sacramento, CA. Any input is welcome and appreciated.

You can get some basic information from that site, but be careful. I have noticed numerous errors that are listed as fact on the website. I have not purchased any of the material offered, but others who have say there are also errors in the material.

You'll get a good overview...but...
...the ONLY information you should ever trust regarding your notary commission is what you get from your SOS. Period.
Not from calling the NNA, not from any other website, not from any book you might read on the subject. You can get guidance from the NNA, and you can elicit general ideas and overviews online from thousands of websites.
And, you can get guidance from a title company, signing service, or from a lender, but remember, it's *guidance* for a specific assignment--and, if you are not clear on whether or not it's ok for your state, don't do it until you get the final word from your SOS.
You can get legal advice from an attorney that you personally hire. But, where your commission is concerned, heed this warning:
What is not in "black and white" in your notary rules (notary rules of YOUR state) should be run past your SOS.

Secretary of State
Here is a list on my site where I keep a list of them. I think NotaryRotary.com has a good list of them too, but here's where mine is...I can find it faster...like right off the top of my head...

SOS = Stone's Our Savior!

Re: SOS??
I think I'd be more comfortable with
SOS="Stone's our Secretary"
I usually know where to find things.
