Notary Newsletter
www.notaryclasses.com has a free Notary newsletter to download; just scroll down the home page on the right side. This month's newletter has information on the new Jurat law in Calif. and I wrote an article on identity theft. Kelly Robertson has written a good article on "Marrying Couples." All notaries throughout the country are invited to submit articles.

Joan... Does your company really run radio commercials that claim there is a shortage of notaries in California?

Yep. I just heard one on the radio yesterday (KFI). It definitely states that there is a shortage of notaries in California. Repulsive, isn't it? There's nothing wrong with using spin in marketing to suit your business needs, but to blatantly lie in your advertising is disgusting and horrifyingly unethical.
By the time these new notaries realize how saturated the Calfornia notary market is and how few notaries can make anything remotely near $5-10 thousand per month (also claimed in the radio ad as well as on the website) it'll be too late, Joan's company will have had their money for months.

I was on my way to a closing just the other morning and I heard the same lies Hugh. I guess they are getting to be as bad as the NNA in there advertising. I don't know how people can live with themselves, or sleep at night knowing that they have taken people for a ride like that.

now now now, there're not bad, in fact, I have to change my
business cards to show that I am a notary public and a "negative energy" remover, with my sea salts and sage. Yep, $150 to remove negative energy from a home sounds like what every notary on the up and up with an on-line ordination, should pursue.
See you learn something new every day!

If I write an article about how companies like yours and the NNA are destroying this profession by flooding the market with incompetent signing agents with nothing but dollar signs in their eyes, will you run it in your newsletter?

and this is from a woman who just a few months ago didn't know what an Allonge to a Note was, who has put out a recission calendar with errors and who just last week didn't know about the swearing in process of CA notaries. Also wrote her book by asking other notaries their success stories and tips without mentioning a book in progress. Oh, and her partner had no idea what a "Medallion Notary" was - anyone who is wildly successful should know what it isn't and they sure should know what the person was actually asking for. And these are just a few of the 'public' snafus made recently - can't imagine what she doesn't know in front of a room full of people who are there to learn. Boy, I'm sure glad I'm not taking their tips at being "Wildly Successful". All that said, for someone who has only been a notary signing agent for a few years and doesn't have a whole lot of signings under her belt she sure has found a niche and apparently has been "Wildly Successful" at marketing this business to others.

Re: Ok ---What is an Allonge to a Note? N/M
it's an attachment (although I believe they use the phrase "annexed to" in the actual document) with changes, i.e., lender, interest change for modification, miscalculation of due date, etc. My point was, that she is 'wildly successful' and teaches others this business but doesn't know routine things llike this that anyone should know if they are 'wildly successful' and attempting to teach others. Of course everyone doesn't know everything but this is a basic in this business.

Allonge = an all purpose sponge (all + onge) used to clean up loan documents after the signing agent has spilled coffee on them. Occasionally, a single spermicial sponge used for birth control with each of a woman's many lovers is colloquially identified as an "allonge."
