Question to all the notaries out there
I have been reading about all these companies that don't pay. We need to create an "Avoid List" because of this. There must be something we can do to put a stop to this. I know there are companies out there that take a while to pay but I'm talking about the ones that don't pay at all.
Most of the signings that I do come from a "Middle Man". A title company, etc will contact a company that in turn, contacts you/us.
You'd think that if the title company, etc., knew just what kind of person they were dealing with then maybe they wouldn't do business with anymore (one could only hope) then maybe all the non paying companies could get "weeded out".
Any ideas? I'd love to hear them. And any avoid lists that you could email, I'd be grateful.
[e-mail address]
Thanks guys!

There is an avoid list - click on the yellow search button above and type in "avoid list". Maybe you can summarize the lists and post it for us. We would all appreciate it.

It saves a lot of time for everybody if newcomers do not launch discussions about the benefits of reinventing the wheel. You should consider the suggestion below:
Advice for new notaries
Above the menu of posts, click the "First" button. Go all the way to the very first post in June 2003, "Welcome to the General Discussion Forum." Read all the way to the last post today. You will find your answer many times over in the intervening messages, along with far better information about being a signing agent than you’ll ever get from any certification course.

There are plenty of no-no lists out there. HOWEVER, SS's end up on no-no lists for any number of reasons. Just because a company is listed on a list, doesn't necessarily mean you should automatically say no should they call you for a signing. As Hugh suggested, start at the beginning of the threads and read the messages. (You will also learn from reading the threads/messages that you will get more response if you use your name and tell us where you are located.) If you consistently see a SS negatively talked about, then a red flag should go up. Make it a rule to not allow a SS to owe you for more than one signing before taking another from them.
