FL statute Primer clarification
The Florida Notary Law Summary referenced is completely up to date. It is based on law revisions effective in 2000, hence the reference to Florida Notary Statutes of 2000. There has been no significant change in Florida Notary law since 2000. (In 2003, however, there was one very small change that involved correcting a cross reference citation in F.S. 117.01(4)(d) as a result of passage of HB 0847, but no substance was added or deleted to the section other than correcting the reference.)
The National Notary Association devotes considerable resources to tracking legislation that affects Notaries. Our efforts here are unmatched. We follow the proposed procedure changes through the legislative process and publish this information on our Web site and in our member publications. We are frequently flattered to discover other providers of Notary information – even several states – lift their content from our efforts.
Legislation on Notary issues has often been based on our “Model Notary Act,” a comprehensive statute prototype spearheaded by the NNA to modernize the Notary Public office. Over the course of three decades, legislators and Notary-regulating officials have borrowed extensively from the “Model Notary Act,” in reforming state and territorial Notary laws.
