Stamp

I need a new stamp and wanted to see which is the best one to buy. Where did you get your stamp? What stamp do you use to give the best results? TIF

I have 2 stamps. Notary Rotary makes a nice stamp. The imprint is clean & clear, The only drawback is it is quite large. I also have a "Magic Touch" pocket stamp. It also has a very crisp & clear imprint, is much smaller, but more pricey. About $35 w/shipping. Another notary I know sells them. You can contact her at [e-mail address]. If you go with a magic touch, make sure you order ink. Use of other ink voids the warranty and you can only get it from the manufacturer. Why pay shipping twice?

The Ohio stamp is the largest stamp we sell and is roughly 2x bigger than any other. The reason is that, by law, the Ohio Seal must be depicted within a 1" circle, which requires a very large stamp mount to accommodate it. Believe me, we'd love it if Ohio were a "normal" state - we've asked the SOS twice about allowing for the use of a smaller seal and they have, to date, refused to give us a position.

Texas is a normal-sized stamp and, in fact, will be smaller than almost any self-inker you can buy (such as the Ideals, Maxums and Trodats). We can also make the Traveler stamps for Texas, which are even smaller, but we haven't taken the time to add them to the store. I think NNA sells that same model for something like $20 + S/H. If you want to see what they look like, choose California as you enter our store.

It's offensive, Harry, for you to even suggest, much less claim outright, that anything Texan is small, even if it's just a notary stamp. Everything is bigger in Texas, including egos.

Hmm... You must have missed my point. Relative to the Great State of Texas, our notary stamp is very, very small. In fact, I was a bit ashamed speaking of something so small in the context of something so big.

Thank you, though, for not pointing out my egregious use of the words mount, accommodate and position. When I posted, I was nearly certain you would take issue with them. But, alas, my impropriety was overshadowed by a much, much larger concern.

A Texan visiting anothe state was bragging about his ranch in Texas.
"Why, back inTexas, it takes me 30 minutes just to drive my pick up truck from one end of my ranch to the other" bragged the Texan.

"I know just how you feel" said a local "I had a truck like that once too"

A Texan farmer goes to Australia for a vacation and meets an Aussie farmer.
The Aussie farmer shows off his big wheat field and the Texan says "oh? We have wheat fields that are at least twice as large"

Then they walk around the ranch a little, and the Aussie shows off his herd of cattle. The Texan immediately says "We have longhorns that are at least twice the size of your cows"

The conversation almost dies when the Texan sees a herd of kangaroos hopping through the field.
He asks "And what are those?"

The Aussie replies with an incredulous look "Don't you have any grasshoppers in Texas?"

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Considering that about all Florida is known for is reptiles, bluehairs and hanging chads, I'd keep quiet if I were you.

Re: Stamp -- Heckling from the cheap seats

But you have to remember that most of those "blue hairs" in Florida migrated from other states - mostly New York and New Joisey. And I wouldn't be suprised if there weren't a few transplanted Texans hereSmiley

The reptiles are friendly - as long as you don't mess with them.
The hanging chads - well that was just those South Floridians that don't know how to vote.

Sylvia posts: "A Texan visiting another state was bragging about his ranch in Texas..."

Maybe that would explain the bumper sticker a saw the other day?

"Somewhere in Texas, a village is missing its idiot."

Harry, Do can I order, without a problem, then, by going into the CA site because I want both the jurat and the traveler if both are available to Texas.

I recently mangled my little traveler and I miss it. Those things are G-R-E-A-T for those near non-existent places to put the stamp.

I recently placed an order and was disappointed there was not a Traveler or a jurat, but I am now thrilled beyond my wildest dreams. ;>

Re: Stamp - Revised

Yep, I noticed the order you placed on Thursday. It shipped that same day or on Friday (I can't remember which), so it's too late to add the items to that order.

No, you cannot order from the California store. Our system is highly automated and that would result in the creation of California stamps. I will need to add them to Texas - look for them in the next 30 minutes, or so.

Incidentally, in most cases, the Traveler impression will not be much smaller than the normal impression. I recommend waiting until you receive your recent order before placing another. If you decide to order again, I might throw in a complimentary electronic seal. Basically, it's a high resolution JPG image of your seal, provided on CD, in a password-protected, encrypted format. If you are primarily mobile, it might not be worth much to you, but fun to play with regardless.

I appreciate you answering my post, Harry. Cannot believe you have shipped so fast! That's really great service. I will wait until I see the size of the one that is coming. But, I will be looking into the jurat. Thanks, Brenda

Ohio Stamp

"we've asked the SOS twice about allowing for the use of a smaller seal and they have, to date, refused to give us a position"

Gotta love the Ohio SOS. I have never gotten a response from them. Their website basically says we cannot answer your questions, contact your local bar association. The Bar Association does not respond to email nor does the SOS. The only time I can get a question answered is if I call the county recorder's office.

Harry, the Ohio seal on the Magic Touch stamp I have is much smaller and I have never had any problems with it.

I am glad to hear the rest of the stamps aren't so large. The Ohio one I have is excellent quality, just too big. I keep it in my office and take my small one out on jobs.

Re: Ohio Stamp

You might want to press them on the stamp issue. It does not sound like your other stamp meets the requirements as defined in the Ohio Revised Code, Section 147.04:

"The seal must consist of the coat of arms of the state within a circle one inch in diameter and be surrounded by the words 'notary public,' 'notarial seal,' or words to that effect, the name of the notary public, and the words 'State of Ohio.'"

We interpret this literally, so a 1" circle is actually depicted on your stamp with the coat of arms in the interior. Add the wording to that, and you've got more like 1.25" in diameter, edge-to-edge, plus the block of text to the right. (Which is actually optional, but required on most documents.)

I believe what's happening in the cases where companies are making smaller seals is one of a few things:

1) They are aware of the statute, but have chosen to interpret it as "the seal must fit inside a one-inch circle," meaning it should be no bigger than one-inch, or

2) That the use of smaller seals, like other states have, is generally accepted and never questioned, or

3) That other stamp manufacturers are completely unaware of the law.

Again, I have posed the question to the SOS by phone several times and via e-mail twice (to two different people) and they have never responded.

We are now considering a completely circular pre-inked stamp seal for Ohio, rather than the rectangular one you have, which would incorporate all required and optional elements and would be significantly smaller.

United States Notary Association has a pocket Traveler stamp for $23, plus S&H. Size depends on your state's requirements, doesn't it?

In some states, the size must be exact. In others, it is "not to exceed" some specified dimension. In others, yet, no size or shape is specified at all.

The Traveler, which we sell in The Notary Shop, only comes in one size, which will accommodate most states. (Washington and Missouri are two examples of where it will not work, however; their size requirements are too big for the Traveler.)

In Texas and Iowa, we sell the Traveler for $18 to non-members and $12 to Premier Members. In California, we sell it for $15 and $10. We haven't added it to other states because we're still not 100% satisfied with it. (Some notaries love it while others can't even figure out how to open it, which is one reason we're now including simple instructions.)

Generally, for this stamp and others, you will find that our total price, including shipping, is about 40% less than USNA, NNA, et. al.
