Alden is not only a penny-pinching and perfidious outfit, they are also disorganized.
Had an out of town signing; reluctantly agreed to accept e-dox through Kinkos because they couldn't get them to me on time otherwise (that's the first tip-off). Dox were supposed to be there in the morning for a 3 p.m. signing one county and two cities away. 2:45 p.m., no dox. Client calls his lender, lender says dox went to Alden some hours before. My signing was effectively cancelled because I had no dox to take with me. Billed for a cancellation within two hours of closing time, they refused to pay. Claimed the dox were there all the time, so I guess Kinkos -- for whom I am a regular customer -- was lying to me. Said I hadn't done anything, despite two trips to Kinko's, numerous phone calls to Kinko's, Alden and client, and all the other standard stuff such as setting up a file.
What really chaps is that I turned down two assignments after accepting the closing from those lint-brained hairballs. I think a responsible signing agent who doesn't have either an income or a self-esteem problem should stay far, far away from Alden.
The kicker: Kinko's says Alden stiffed them, too, and did not pay for the dox they eventually printed out.

I'm still waiting.
Did one in March. Before I accepted, I asked how long before payment. I was told 35 days. Signing was very late, 100 miles round trip in the torrential rains. Got home about 2am.
60 days later, I fax my final demand telling them I WILL call the Loan Officer to get on their tail if I am not paid by Friday. A few days later, on 5/26/04 I look on their website & it shows a check as been cut. Today is June 10th and I have not received it. They must think all they have to do is cut the check. HOW ABOUT MAILING IT!!!!...and don't tell me you did & it got lost. When I get this check I can guarantee the post mark will be several weeks after the check date.
Crazy busy today, but I think I will call the LO tomorrow when I have more time. He was very appreciative that I went out so late to take care of his borrowers. I'm sure he will take care of me by helping me with Alden.
If their pay schedule was 60 days, fine. If it's 45 days after the full-moon in the 4th month, fine. But I asked and they told me 35 just to get me to do the job (their website says 45 days).
Grrrrr!

Update on Alden
As suspected, after receiving my final demand letter, they did write the check May 26th as their online system showed. Again, as suspected, they didn't bother mailing it until June 12th. I just received it today.
This was for a March Signing. Alden has paid up.

I am personally making a list of the non-paying companies and I do not plan on taking any closing for them. Only if they pay in advance, which I doubt.
