What would you have done?
I went to a closing last night. The package was different from all others, it had no lines for the borrower to sign. On the last page of the "Note" it had a line that said Initial. So I had him initial. On the Truth in Lending. His name was already typed but no line for him to sign. So i just had him initial it. The signing agency called me and wanting me to go back, "for free". I didn't feel I was in the wrong and told him I didn't mind going back if he would pay me for the trip back over there. He declined. What would you have done?

The Note is always signed as is the Truth in Lending. If in doubt, ALWAYS call the lender or signing agency. If you're a new signing agent, you may not realize this.

you should have gone back; however, the signing service is also at fault. I AM NOT PICKING but it is clear you don't have much experience or you would have gotten a signature on 2 of the most important documents in the package. But, if they hired you and knew you didn't have much experience (and they should know who they are sending out) then they are as much to blame. If services want to use people without experience, then they should walk them through the packages until the notary is comfortable with the package. Otherwise, they have no one to blame but themselves. Mary, go back and get it signed if you still have time. No one will remember a year from now that you corrected your error but a year from now they sure will remember you if you don't.

My question is: Did you notarize these documents, and did you know that you cannot notarize initials and did it anyway?

The "Note" and "Truth in Lending" do not need to be notarized in most cases.
