federal holiday?
Some of my SS/Title companies are saying the 11th is a holiday (because of Reagan's death); Ditech sent a fax saying it was, then later today sent another fax saying it isn't. I'm confused!!!!
Any clarity?

It is my understanding that it takes an act of congress to create a federal holiday which has yet to happen for Reagan. The lenders and escrow companies can add an extra day to the RTC if they choose as long as the borrowers get their 3days. I think the confusion is that the post office is going to close on friday which does not automatically create a federal holiday.

I called a couple different signing companies today for clarification. They in turn called a couple title companies and lenders. In each case the response was not to treat Friday as a holiday. Their reasoning was it isn't in the system as yet. They went on to say that it would be considered a legal holiday next year.

I think you were given a little bit of bad information. The holiday for Reagan's death is a one shot deal. It won't be considered a legal holiday next year.

as always, I am perplexed why we would be concerned with this. if they want the RTC dates changed, they will let you know. I have looked at 8 loan packages to be signed between today & Thursday and none of them have added an extra day. if the lenders decide to add an extra day, they will contact me (or the title company) and indicate the change.

MSNBC reports that, Congress will shut down on friday in order for OUR congressional leaders to pay their respects. MPO, do your banking before friday.

Re: federal holiday?=Should not matter
Should not matter to you. You are to notarize and see the documents are signed properly. You do not warrant there content. If a lender changes a word on page 17 of the mortgage are you going to catch it? No! Of course a notary should not do something that is illegal(nor a non-notary for that matter.) Still, I stick to the principal that I am to verify ids, tell them where to sign and notarize.
