Laser Printers

I'm considering a laser printer. From what I've seen here and on other forums a lot of people like the HP1300. They are going for about $400 and I'd like to stay at $300 or less but want to get something that will do the job. Any of you have something else that you think is a good printer for edocs?

Here is a Link for HP 3300 copy, scan, print. Best price on the net. I've bought 2 & there is nothing about this printer that is not new, even if it is a refurb. Comes with a 12 month new warranty. It also has 32mb ram which is I think double the HP 1300.

Is this a printer or a all in one?

I purchased a Brother HL-5040 for $199 and paid $129 for a second tray for legal paper. I love it, each tray holds 250 sheets

I just got a HP Laserjet 1012 for $197.54 at Office Depot. Works great and is fast enough. If I wear it out quickly that means I can afford one in the $400.00 range. I do up to 10 e-docs a week.

Hmmmm..... The HP 1012 is a "host based" printer, meaning it uses the Window's graphic engine to print. Therefore, it will be fine for printing PDF documents, but you will not be able to print Swiftview, eLynx, or any other PCL document.

In order to print "all" types of edocs, including those from data warehouses, you need a PCL compliant printer. HP is the only true PCL printer (HP owns PCL), all others use PCL emulators and may not be fully compatible. Though many have reported that they have not had problems with their Brother printers.

Just did an elynx this morning and a swiftview last week. Just change some settings with my HP 1012. I like it!

Patijay, what settings did you change in your system to get swiftview and elynx to print properly.

I feel really dumb but do you have to use a laser printer. I have been lucky enough to not have to do edocs yet. I guess I say lucky, maybe that's not true. I usually get the overnight packages. So what I am wondering if for temporary am I able to use my reg. printer or does it have to be a laser?

Thanks for all of your help.

The ink of Injet printers is easily smeared. Getting a laser could get you possibly $35.00 -$40.00 more, but you also need to copy a set for the borrower. If is late at night you know you can definely negotiate as the signing agency get 175.00 and want to give you???? you know what.

Pattijay, how do you get so many signings a week. I have to work a separate part time job because I haven't been able to make a really steady income with the signings.

Staples has the 1300 for $399.99 with a $100.00 rebate.
Mine was a lot more than that when I purchased it. I told another Notary about the 1300, she bought it and "raves" about it. I'm really happy with mine. Gets the job done quickly with no problems.

Hey Tom,

After reading this board for awhile and getting assistance from some of the great folks here i just recently purchased a hewlett packard 3015 laser jet for $298. from office depot it's an ALL-IN-ONE and I love it handles all my printer and fax needs it's also PCL 6 compliant naturally not by driver emulation. Which is definately a plus when handling e-docs from what I'm learning. Well good luck on the printer search & have a great day!
