another $50 viewpoint
I have taken $50 signings and have learned the hard way...you drive all over the map, the packages have riduculous closing intructions (fax 1/2 the pkg back to get approval, etc,etc,...make 6 copies of this, 2 of that , initial this & that.., call immediately after the signing Or there will be a deduction in your fee....most of the time it winds up costing $$....after the stress and hassle of it, I need a day off @ the spa....

I agree but I won't leave the house for anything under $65.00 base fee and 30.00 e-docs

you have to ask up front if you are going to have to package the docs... you need to see if its just a straight signing or if you're doing more... i'm happy at 50 for local, but if you're going to drive 45 minutes to an hour, then ask for a little more.. that's reasonable...
as notaries, we never think about the signings services having to pay their staff and their overhead, too. it's like we dont appreciate that they give us work we're always complaining about the hand that feeds us!!

I don't mean to complain. I just think the lenders need to make it clear to the signing companies what exactly they are expecting from notaries. One lender I know of wants you to literally go to the overnite facility, not even a drop box, to get the pkg scanned as soon as the closing is completed. Other lenders expect you to fax half the pkg and or make phone calls immediately. I don't so much have a problem with the closing instructions. It's that I feel like I am worth way more than $50 if this is what they require. I have done $50 signings with some companies where the pkgs are a piece of cake. I can walk in & out in 10-15 minutes. I would be willing to do those all day. But With the price of gas, the wear and tear on your vehicle, and all of the above, I think the bottom line is that LENDERS hold the key to the $$ in the closing process. THEY are the ones making the thousands. Signing companies, like us take the business they can get. To each his own.....

I agree with you 100 percent The worst part is they rarely tell you what they want upfront. I have learned to ASK and I don't take them. I always get anouther signing that pays more that I would not have been able to take if I had That CHEAPIE one. If we all quit taking them they would have to get in line. see my posting Trancontinental Tile posted 3-31-04
