Advice for new notaries
Above the menu of posts, click the "First" button. Go all the way to the very first post in June 2003, "Welcome to the General Discussion Forum." Read all the way to the last post today. You will find your answer many times over in the intervening messages, along with far better information about being a signing agent than you’ll ever get from any certification course.

John If you got Certified as a loan signer you should have a very good idea how to get hired and how to do the signings and also what equiptment to buy. Who did you get Certified by?

Another sterling example of the "value" of being a certified loan signing agent.

I almost totally disagree. I've seen too many "certified" signing agents who couldn't find their butt with both hands. I would much rather hire an uncertified COMPETENT signing agent than a certified agent who doesn't understand what a notary can and cannot do, nor what APR or Aggregate Adjustment means.
It is just unfortunate that some companies look at the certification as experience and understanding, when all it is, is proof of regurgitation of facts easily found in the book (using the NNA's exam as an example).
This is why some companies employ their own competency exam. And, if I were in the position of hiring signing agents, I too would probably be inclined to have some type of competency exam and a "probation" period where the SA would have to prove themselves, if they haven't already.

Paul, no disagreement between you and me on this one.
However, I think Cali's statement was a complete agreement with you on this point, only in his short and sweet way of summing things up with a bit of humor in using the word "Sterling"
You are Tha' Man, Paul. Tha' Literal Man - and I kinda like that about you.

Exactly. Which is also why I put the word "value" in quotation marks. That a person can become a certified agent and still have to ask how to get started in the biz tells me that the certification didn't teach him a whole lot.
