INK COLOR AND VENUE

AS A NEW MEMBER TO THIS INTERESTING PROFESSION, I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS (AT LEAST FOR TODAY):
1. WHICH IS THE PREFERRED COLOR OF INK TO USE WHEN SIGNING RECORDABLE DOCUMENTS, BLACK OR BLUE?
2. IN SIGNING NOTARY'S INFO, DO YOU FILL IN THE COUNTY WHERE YOU ARE NOTARIZING?

Unless otherwise requested I always have my borrowers sign in black ink, however you might want to check with your particular state and verify that the color is not specified somewhere.

As for filling in the county I always list:

State of _______________
County of... County I am commissioned, ----County acting in ----County, which of course is the County the signing is taking place.

Hope this helps

Here at our SS we have in bold large letters to always sign in BLUE INK unless otherwise told by one of us. ALL of our lenders prefer blue ink!

Blue or Black? Always a dilemma. There are TWO things that need to be checked: (1) What does YOUR state require, if either; and (2) What does the LENDER require, if either. If neither YOUR state nor the LENDER require one color or the other, then either is acceptable. I personally use blue to differentiate the original from the copy. (I know... color copiers and all, but not too often are loan documents copied on color copiers.)

Now for the county info stuff. There may be TWO places where COUNTY is specified in the notary certificate: (1) At the beginning of the certificate [venue]; and (2) beneath the notary's signature. (1) The VENUE is ALWAYS the location of the SIGNING. (2) The notary info is where the notary received their commission or where you live.

If there are no specific instructions or legal requirement (certain recorder offices require a specific ink color ) re: ink color, I have them use black ink.
I usually mark a blue x to indicatie where they are to sign. That covers me in those cases where half way through the loan pkg or buried in the middle of am instruction page regarding HUD preparation (I have even found instructions as to ink color at the very end of a pkg)
you find instuctions requiring a speceific ink color.
The blue x enables them to differentiate between original and copy.

THANKS FOR THE RAPID ANSWERS. THE ANSWERS WERE CLEAR AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND. I AM WONDERING WHY SEVERAL OUTFITS THAT SELL TRAINING BOOKS ON HOW TO BE A SIGNING AGENT CANNOT BE AS CLEAR AND SIMPLE. IT SEEMS THAT MOST EVERY PAGE IN THOSE BOOKS NEEDS TO BE TRANSLATED. AGAIN, THANKS!!!
