Just got married
I have been a notary since 1999 and just got married and wondering what do I do about changing my name? Does anyone know who to contact and what to do?

Call your state and have your name changed and also your stamp. When that is complete you can change your name with SS companies as they call you.

I called and they were out to lunch, no one there but a message service and figured I'd forget to call them back (like I did) and thought I'd try here first. Thank you.

It depends on what state you are in. Ca has very specific guidelines with regards to name changes and also address changes.

Just got off the phone with NY state and they told me that I have to sign my maiden name and married name afterwards until my commission expires in 2007! Wow, that seems soo far away but hey if that is what they do, so be it. They are sending me a change form to fill out and I guess putting in on file until the renewal.

Thanks! Everyone is soo nice in this forum. This is my first and I cant believe how many people will get involved to help answer a question. I'll tell you, I was on hold trying to get my answer for over 15 minutes when I called the state direct, it seems alot faster here. Actually I got my answer from them and put it out there for any other newlyweds wondering what to do when they return as a "new woman". Take care and enjoy your holidays!
