Printer, not auto selecting
My Brother HL-5140 w/dbl. tray, is not printing ltr. & legal size in the same transmission. I'm having trouble w/the DynamicDoc. test package. I've called them but the one I spoke to seemed to know less than I. Is there someone who might know what the settings should be. The Brother web site is down right now, so I thought I could save time by coming here.

Call Brother, but I do not think that model has tray sensors. When I was purchasing a Brother printer, I called Brother. I had to get the 8840N to get one with tray sensors.

The second tray was acknowledged by the computer when I installed it, if that's what u mean. In fact it printed the contract from one of the ss, which had one legal size sheet. Thank you.

No, thats not what I meant. When I was shopping for printers I looked at that one and I called Brother and they said that it did not have tray sensors and would not automatically print from the right size tray.

The 5140 does not have on-board paper size detection. The program you are printing from needs to tell the printer which size paper to print on. Adobe does this, Swiftview does not as an example. Load legal in tray 1 and letter in tray 2, then if the program tells the printer which size to print your set. If the program doesn't, you print on all legal and are still set.
