Well here it is tues the 16th 5:15 pm and no doc's. the company says they are 'working on it" and to please wait. The signing is about an hours drive away. I would call them back and get the client's number and tell them whats going on and give them the chance to reschedule a little later tonight - if possible of course

Re: Ack! I hit tab and it posted! OOPS!

They called me and said they were cancelling it due to no doc's. I had to call the borrowers and tell them as they didn't know. And to top it all off I'm not making a penny off all this, no promise that when they do get the doc's I will be the notary :(

Serina,
Welcome to the world of e-docs. I have a *3-hr. before the signing deadline* and absolutely will not accept the docs if it goes to 2 hrs. or less and I still don't have them.

I can relate to the deadline already. My first signing was scheduled for 6 pm. The called me at 2pm. I didn't start receiving docs until 4:30pm. They were incomplete. I still had to make copies, seperate, etc. I had to call the borrower 2 times to tell him that I was still printing and copying. I all eventually worked out and got to his house at 7:15. I sealed the FedEx package at 11pm that night after faxing was complete

Update the borrowers as your hear news...

I do that everytime this happens. Once, I got to the signing and the loan officer started blaming me. The borrower yelled at him saying, "I know exactly what time she got the documents and she got here when expected...DO NOT BLAME HER! It is your unprofessionalism that is costing this, not hers!" Just call the borrower so that they will know what to expect and so that they will understand that you are not at fault. When push comes to shove, you will be in the clear.

Re: Ack! I hit tab and it posted! OOPS!

With me it all depends on the situation. If I can be flexible with my schedule I'll do what I can to accomodate the situation and reschedule for later in the evening. If I have other appointments scheduled I'll simply tell the lender that I'll be unable to do the signing if I don't have the docs in time to make the original appointment. I am not going to knock myself out trying to reschedule my entire day around their screwups.

There's really no right or wrong way to handle this. It's nice of you if you are willing to work with them, but don't feel the slightest bit of guilt if you can't or don't want to reschedule. It's their fault, not yours. They book us for a certain block of time, they have no right to expect that we're going to change that block of time on their whim.

Re: Ack! I hit tab and it posted! OOPS!

Live and Learn Serina/VT. It's good to try to comply, but sometimes you cannot.

There is one problem title company here in Texas that calls me to do their loans and I continue to be scheduled when they call. I cannot risk taking their assignments any longer. Here's why.

Say, for instance, I have signings tomorrow and the next day, but none for today.

If they call for me to do one at 5 00 pm today, it sounds easy enough, but the problem is that it will likely cancel and reschedule for tomorrow or the next day.

The problem is they won't give me the courtesy of a call to check to see if I can do it tomorrow or the next day and will assume I can. I think Carolyn has also experienced something like this. Once you figure out who will do it to you, you learn not to let them burn you again. Well....after about the 5th time, I learned.

Now, they are on to me and have signing companies call me. When I get a new signing company calling now, I ask up front if it is this particular signing company/usual lender.

I expressed the problem to a signing company when I refused their assignments from this title company's work for the third time. The signing company advised they understood and appreciated my explanation. I also told them of finding out this company was double booking notaries to cover their bases. They too were sick of it and were also experiencing the same type of treatment.

These were all Ameriquest loans. I don't have this problem on eDocs with any other lender. In fact, they often come one-two days ahead of time.

I have a strict policy. All edocs and Fed Ex packages must arrive 24 hours prior to the signing. I am on the road all day long and do not have time to come back home to pickup the Fed Ex package or print last minute edocs. The last Fed Ex package came 5 min before my 11:00 am appt. The borrower was signing on her lunch hour and I had to drive an hour. Edocs were arriving after the scheduled appointment. I also do Insurance and HUD inspections and I can make much for for 1 hours work than I can waiting, waiting and waiting for packages and edocs. Not to mention screwing up your whole schedule. No compensation for your time and my time is valuable.

24-hours and e-docs are rare situations. I think I have only received e-docs 12-24 hours before the signing once, but not more than two times.

Same with Fed Ex. 95% of the time I receive overnight packages on the day of the signing; it's extremely rare for me to have them 24 hours in advance.

As nice as a 24 hour window would be for edocs or overnight packages, that just doesn't seem realistic to me. If she can get them to do this, great, but most of us have to work within the parameters of the industry standards. If I only accepted jobs with a 24 hour window of docs I'd quickly find myself with almost no work at all.

I just got the Edocs tonight-Thursday for a signing, Saturday at 10. It can be done, I have several companies that do send the docs a day or two ahead.

You're lucky. However, this is still the exception and not the norm, or there wouldn't be so many posts on the subject.

Yeah, it can be done. I do have one company that usually gets the docs to me a day or two in advance. But they are definitely the minority, pretty much all the rest get the docs to me on the day of the signing.

That's the great thing about this job, we're able to set the parameters that we're willing to work with and refuse work from those who don't fall into them. If you're able to get enough work to suit your needs from companies who get you the docs that early, that's great. However, that 24 hour minimum timeframe just isn't realistic for the majority of us in here.
