hp1300

I have been experiencing a printing problem and was just wondering if anyone else has. I send the docs to the printer and request 2 copies, the first copy is great, the second copy half way thru doesn't print everything it should on every page, example first page of the DOT doesn't have Deed Of Trust printed on the page, many of the docs are a mess. I have been in contact with HP not much help, to fix it so that I can get the second copy I have to restart the computer, then send the docs to the printer again. I realize to remedy this I should not try to print 2 copies, just do one at a time....geez. I guess Im just trying to decide if I have a defective printer, I've only had it 2 months. Also this is a great website I have learned alot from everyone.

Lots of different reasons for not printing properly. Some are printer dependent and some are PC dependent. So we need to get some nitty gritty details:

Printer type - HP LJ 1300
Printer connection? USB or Parallel
Printer configuration? Standard or Enhanced (additional memory and/or 2nd feed tray)
Paper configuration? Tray 1 - Legal/Letter Tray 2 (if installed) - Legal/Letter

PC Make/Model?
Operating System? Windows 98, 98SE, NT, 2000 Home/Pro, XP Home/Pro, Unix, Linux
Printer driver? PCL 5e / PCL 6 / PS
Printer Port? LPT1,2,3 DOT1,2,3,4
Other printers installed? (Make/model)
PC Memory Installed?
Printer configuration? Print immediately / Print after last page is spooled

File type? PDF / DOC / ELX / PRN / ???
File size?
Collated printing? Yes / No

Now some basic questions...

Does this happen with any other file? (Try a small text or word document file and print 2 copies)

Are there ANY error or warning messages being displayed on the PC during the printing?

If you are using collated printing, and printing smaller files works fine, I'm guessing it may be a memory problem, since the print spooler is a memory intensive storage area for the pinter.

A few things to try:

Close ALL applications that are not needed to print the file. If it's a PDF file, close everything except Adobe Acrobat. If it's a DOC file, just keep Word open. If it's a download or print from the web, then you'll need to keep the browser open.

Shut down your computer AND the printer. Turn both off. Then turn the PRINTER ON FIRST, then turn on the computer. Try printing the document before doing anything else.

Try turning off print spooling and do print direct. It will "freeze" your computer during the printing rather than buffering it, so you won't be able to surf the web or play solitaire while it prints.

Keep us posted on your success.

Re: Paws suggestion

I had the same problem. It turned out to be a memory problem, as suggested. I changed the settings from spool to direct print and haven't had a problem since.
I have a different printer, but I would imagine it's the same thing.
I would highly suggest this option to anyone with a similar problem. It took me a good 2 hours to figure it out. I was almost late for my closing. :-0
