Accpetable 2nd ID

Hello - I have a newbie question.. I have a signing tomorrow and I called the borrowers to confirm their appointment and make them aware that the company is requiring 2 i.d.'s from both of them. They have a state issued drivers licence but that's it. They also said they have Costco cards with their pictures or credit cards... this does not seem acceptable to me but I dont know. I had my training through NNA (unfortunately i read this board too late & now learned they are not very good :<) Can someone please let me know. Thank you!

Re: Acceptable 2nd ID

The most reliable forms of ID are a state's driver's license and a US passport. Any form of identification that you rely upon should be a valid government issued card containing the photograph and signature of the person. Examples of these are State issued ID cards, Military ID's, State Corrections Inmate ID cards, or any governemnt agency ID cards such as CIA, FBI, Secret Service, Homeland Security etc. I too took my initial training through NNA. Good Luck! BK-FL

Re: Acceptable 2nd ID

Different lenders have different requirements. Some lenders accept require a second government-issued photo ID, some want you to verify that you have seen a social security card, and there is one lender out there who will accept a utility statement as the second ID. (Go figure...)

Check with the lender, or ask your signing service to check it our for you.

Re: Acceptable 2nd ID

The best second ID required is usually the SS card. I've not had any lender ask for a second picture ID but I'm sure that would be better. Many lenders just want something that has the borrowers' names on it. Some will even accept a pay stub because this usually has the SS# on it. To clarify, call the lender and/or title company.

As a second for of ID, I ask for a medical card, gas card, Library Card or any card with their name on it. Since I have already verified the signer by way of the description of the Driver's License, I'm just looking for some type of card with their name on it, possibly a number, expiration date, etc.; however, the most important thing I am looking for is their name.
I think a Costco card is fine, especially since it does have a picture and a name & oftentimes a signature.
I have never used a Social Securitycard as a second ID.

I get any "Official" Pictured ID, Any Pictured Gov Id Card i.e. Military ID, Post Office, Police ID, Fire Dept, Gov Employee ID, Most States will have Pictured ID cards if they don't have a drivers lic. I've even used their Social Security Card as long as the Name and SSN match the Drivers Lic. Hopes this helps
