Ref: message 6161/ HP 1300 printer second tray installation. I followed your instrucitons. I sent a form to the printer. The printer printed the form on a letter size sheet and also ejected a blank legal page. I made several adjustmets but cant not even print the blank legal page now. Help...

Ensure your printer is properly configured. That is, that you specify that a second tray is installed and what type of paper is in each page.

Also, email me ([e-mail address]) so I have your email address and can send you a test file and some "pictures" of the setup.

Include in your email, your operating system and how your printer is connected to your computer.

operating system XP; printer hooked up by USB. First tray (top) has letter paper; second tray (bottom) has legal paper. Everything else is how you instructed. Not printing legal.
I placed the 2nd tray under the printer as shown in instructions sent with printer.

my email is [e-mail address]

PAW, could you send me a test file too. I just installed a second tray for my Dell1700. It seems to be working fine, but to make sure.

[e-mail address]

Thanks...Andy

Rather than sending it to all those who ask, please download it from my website at your convenience. http://www.pawnotary.com/documents/testfeed.pdf

Re: Thanks PAW

I'm not sure if I would have gotten this tray installed for the 1300 without Paul's help. Thank you Paul again: He is our hero

The only thing I would add (and this because I screwed this up a week after Paul helped)
Make sure the bottom tray fits all the way in to the printer. The legal paper needs to be flat in its bed, and also the bottom tray needs to be expanded to legal size paper.

Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you more?

I had the 1200 before and the 1300 is much faster and the dual tray is great. I bought the 2nd tray on EBAY for $79.00: included both delivery & Tax. The tray was new and not reconditioned etc.

I was told by someone from HP Tech Support? that the 1300 was incapable of dual printing

I guess that whoever told you that the 1300 was incapable of dual printing, is incapable of reading their own product literature. The 1300, with a second tray, will mix sheets just fine.

Now, it is incapable of DUPLEX printing. That must be accomplished manually. Maybe that's what they were referring to.
