journal signatures
I have been a notary for 12 years and tonight I do my first loan doc signing. Do I need a signature per document (in Calif there are many docs to sign for loans), or can I just list Deed, Note, Rescission and "Closing Docs" for them to sign my journal?
Thanks.

Advice for new notaries
Above the menu of posts, click the "First" button. Go all the way to the very first post in June 2003, "Welcome to the General Discussion Forum." Read all the way to the last post today. You will find your answer many times over in the intervening messages, along with far better information about being a signing agent than you ever got in your certification course.
If your state requires a journal of certifications, you must record each document separately. There is no need to record documents which you did not certify. Note: In Texas, you must record the names and addresses of the grantor and the grantee on deeds. I do not know if a similar requirement exists for California -- but, California being California, you probably do have to record the length of the toenails and the vegetable preferences of the parties.

In Cali you must list each document you are notarizing, i.e., Deed of Trust, Compliance Agreement, but you only need to have the borrowers sign your journal once and don't forget the right thumbprint!

I am sooo glad that you posted. I too am a CA Notary, and I can help with our state. As stated before only the docs you notorize go in the journal. All docs need to be signed by borrowers. Be very careful to make sure all area's are filled out and date either todays date or a previous date. Everything they date must be todays (or the date of signing) date no matter what, this is the same for you.
Good Luck!
