training

Ok I am taking a vote. If I were to take additonal training and/or certification where would you suggest. I don't have the cash to take a chance with, I have to be sure it will be worth the money. Please cast your vote and help me out. Consider it a practice run for the election.

How many signings have you already done? How many errors have you made duriing those signings?

I have a feeling that you already know the basics of the job, I would guess that any training you went to would be a rehash of what you already know. Most signings are more or less the same, once you've done a few you've done em all. Of course there are going to be occasional oddities that pop up, but those aren't likely to be the types of things you'd learn in a basic signing agent course anyway.

I'd say save your money, spend your time getting to know your notary laws inside and out, and just learn as you go along. Spend some time doing some in depth reading of any documents you receive, until you're comfortable enough with them so you can answer any general questions about them if it arises during the signing. Most of them are pretty self explanatory when you read them. And always remember the magic phrase "you'll have to ask your loan rep about that" which is the answer any time you don't have an answer for them.

Also, like Hugh suggests, go back to the first message on this board and just read everything. That'll give you much more comprehensive training than you could ever hope to get from a basic training course.

Hi thanks for the advise Calinotary! I have only done a few, about 5 so far. However I have not made any mistakes and i have to admit I was very prepared for them. I read the docs over and over. And you are right I have learned a lot since reading this forum. I guess I just want to be up on everything and may be feeling a little unsure of myself. Thanks for the money saving tips. I have not received any checks yet and am BROKE. So as for now maybe I will get my training from you guys the OLBIES can't get better than that. THANKS!!

I used the NNA for my certification, but be forewarned and you will see as you have already done a few signings now, they do not get very specific as to the role of the singing agent and all the docs involved in a signing. I also did research for my state on what the exact notary laws and regulations were prior to deciding to get certified. Here's my vote, I hope it counts this time as I am in Florida and we didn't get counted in the last election! BK-FL

Lynn,
From your beginning posts, it has seemed like you had a grasp on what would be expected of you. If you want more wisdom from the experienced, consider the signingregistry.com.

In the meantime, if you have some specific areas that you want to get more information about and do not want to post it, send me an email. If I do not know it, I will try to help you find some answers.
