BooHoo....Bad Night....Mean People Suck!

I was just "beat-up" by a couple of borrowers. (not literally)

I got the call @ 4pm from one of my favorite TC's. I had already done two for them today and was on my way to the third. I really do like working for this TC and hardly ever say no to them. So, I accepted the signing and said I could be there by 6:30-7:00pm.

Got home, printed pkg., called borrowers and arranged a meeting place. Mr. borrower said "oh great, I'll just have to turn around." I let him know that I would be happy to meet him @ another location, afterall, my job is to accomadate his schedule. He says no, the place was fine.

I get to the location @ 6:27pm and Mr. B shows me to their table. I ask for ID and he has to go out to the truck and get it. I start as I always do by giving the borrowers the HUD to look over while I do my ID thing. Here is where the attitude starts.

Mr. B questioned everything I asked of him starting with signing my journal , oath and why Mrs. B had to sign the Title docs. I have never delt with such a combative borrower in all my days! I tried to explain why Mrs. B (non-obligor) had to sign certain docs & the TC obviously wanted her to sign their docs, as her name was on all of them. It was awfull!

When we got to the Sig/Name Af. and I asked him to sign his name w/ his full middle name HE LOST IT! I calmly said that I can not "make" him sign a doc but it may interfere with the funding of his loan and asked that he contact his LO.

He called the LO and I asked to speak with him. I excused myself to speak with the LO privately. I explained the combative nature that Mr. B was displaying and said I was glad I did not meet these folks in their home; if I did I would have been out the door. The LO said he knew how dificult this guys was and said he would be praying for me.

Well, it got worse. The lenders sig/name af. had a name completely diferent from his name. (ex: John Doe would be John Do) HE LOST IT AGAIN! This time I was not going to say a thing and took a sticky from my bag and began to write "borrower refused to sign" and move on. To this he blew up and said "now you're cocky, who's your boss?" I wanted to leave so bad. I again asked him to contact he LO. When Mr. B came back this time he was okay. I don't know what that LO said to him but it worked. We finished the signing and I high tailed it out of their!!

I know not everyone I meet will like me, but most do and 99% of the time people are great and I love what I do. Through the whole ordeal I kept a smile, was pleasant, professional and shaking like hell trying to get the job done.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if he had something to hide.

Hugs please :-(
BOO-HOO

P.S. this one is for you, Sylvia

Forgot to mention, This Gentleman said he had three Notaries in his office, has family members who are Notaries and none of them ever do all this. He said " I don't like this."

Go figure!

Becca,

You have my sympathy! I was getting more and more tense just *reading* your account of the evening.
I've had a couple doozies (well, one sticks WAY out from the others), but nothing quite that bad.
I hope that ;you're relaxing at home...you've earned it.

Make's you want to smack the idiots upside their head doesn't it? I've had a few signings that bad. Thank God they're few and far between! In my experience 90% of signings are with very nice people it's a pleasure to meet, 9% are with people with absolutely NO PERSONALTY (doorknobs) and 1% are with jerks and or total idiots. I realize that jerks and idiots are totally different but since I want to slap them both upside their heads I lump them together for frustration value.

Isn't it a shame that we can't claim hazard pay?

Here is a multitude of HUGS< HUGS< HUGS< for you. Sometimes it helps if you keepin mind that people like that tend to have heart attacks, ulcers, etc., and are not even happy with themselves. At least you can be happy with your self, that guy will never be at peace. You have self control and he doesn't, you have basic body parts, BUT HE IS JUST ONE BIG A**HOLE!

Becca,

What you had there was what Texans call Short Man Syndrome . . . and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with height. You're probably the one of many who this "little" jerk attempts to intimidate. (I coulda told him not to go there with Becca.) I suspect he's such a little wimp that he had to work himself into a frenzy pre-signing just to have the wherewithall to sign the docs. I think that's what he had to hide.

When you did not engage into his drama (to escalate his adrenalin rush) to get him through this "scary" situation, you really ticked him off (with the note). Any "tick off" is good enough to put on a show of force.

The LO probably told him that he was about to pull you out of it before you perceived injury and drew down on him. Men like that usually check themselves in front of other men.

Believe me, he's sitting at home right now lying to his own head about how he had to square you away, the LO had to be straightened out, etc. before you all cheated him somehow.

Biiiiiiiiig Man.

Glad you are home safe and sound.

Someone hand that shorty-man a dry diaper.

My Method With Jerks

On the few occaisions that I have encountered this type, I just keep thinking that in a short time, I will either be home with my family or with some nice, or at least, neutral people
He will be the exit portion of the digestive system for the rest of his life
I just keep plugging along with the docs, and ignor his (actually most of my bad ones have been women on power trips) juvenive attempts to get attention.

Re: My Method With Jerks

That's right, Sylvia, and that's why I probably shot myself in the foot with 24/7-NNN when they called this week. I had read the bad stuff and said I'd do it if they sent payment ahead. They said no, of course.

However, now they seem to be improving from newer reports.

Better to read the forums and know what you are taking a chance on before winding up with a dysfunctional signing and fighting for the check.

That is funny Bob. Smiley
Strange my experience is that it is men on power trips. I wonder if it is the opposite sex thing.
I had one last night. He was even calling the LO a liar, she the LO, finally had to turn it over to her manager. At least he wasn't just rude to me. Smiley

Becca...I am so sorry for your bad night! It could have been any of us and it can be any of us.

You did handle it very well by being professional and keeping your cool

I am curious though....you said there was a WIFE. What the heck was she doing?!! Did she add to the drama or was she just sitting there? Can you IMAGINE what that woman's life must be like!

I've gained 2 lessons from your story: 1st I should carry sticky note pads with me to closings. I carry paper but not sticky note pads, so I'll through a pad in my bag today. 2ndly. I have been meaning to get some mace or pepper spray to keep on me for the longest time. Now, I know I really need to make getting some type of minor protection a priority!

Thanks and HUGS to us ALL in this profession!

Re: Where to use as a neutral place?

oops. I have always gone to their home. If you meet at a local resturant, are you obligated to purchase something? Worried about drinks on the table. I don't want to be asked to leave if I don't purchase anything. Would be willing to leave a tip.

Suggestion for great neutral place?

Public library
Tables and chairs, copier, AH bwrs can't yell too much or blue haired librarian will come over and beat them with a big dictionary
Kinkos also has tables available.
Docs are printed, gotta run

Here is an Update

The wife sat across the table rolled her eyes at me and gave me dirty looks.

Here is an update:

I noticed that they were paying off a loan to a broker that I do a lot of work for. Just out of curiousity, I called the brokers processor today and asked if this guy was a jerk or if I maybe did do something that I was unaware of to set him off. The processor remembered them well. She said they were indeed a strange pair and she was sure that it was NOT me. I've felt better ever since. She even added that she is always happy with my work and has never had one complaint only compliments. This was exactly the reassurance I needed after last night.

Lesson I learned: Don't let one jerks behavior make you question your own abilities.

Yippee! My signing canceled tonight - time to go get happy and play!!!!

Thanks to all of you. Have a great weekend.

Regarding your update....

Becca - You Said

"I noticed that they were paying off a loan to a broker that I do a lot of work for. Just out of curiousity, I called the brokers processor today and asked if this guy was a jerk or if I maybe did do something that I was unaware of to set him off."

I have to disagree with what you've done. Information on this borrowers settlement statement should not be given to anyone outside the transaction. That is invading the jerks privacy and I don't care how big of a jerk he was.

I can feel for you though. I had the same type of guy 6 months ago. It was in a HFC office, so no one was allowed in the room but me. The poor wife just sat there letting the husband berate me, tell me how smart he was, telling me how high is IQ was, etc. All I could think about is the poor thing is probably beaten on a weekly if not daily basis.

I hate these type of guys: LITTLE guy, BIG truck, BIG dog, TINY...(Ok this is a public board. Let's leave it at that). He was probably teased horribly in some Jr. High Locker room making him this way.

Still, I wouldn't have called the other broker/processor regarding him.

Re: Regarding your update....

I just knew someone would say something like this. I was ready for it Joan.

When I contacted the processor all I said was " I think you guys may have done a closing for this guy when you were in your old location. Does this name ring a bell?" Ding, ding, ding. It sure did. I spoke of no details, only the fact that he was a jerk. As far as the jerks privacy, I did NOT invade his privacy as his current mortgage is public record.

BTW, he was a BIG guy with a BIG truck and a BIG wife. LOL

That's terrible. Good thing you were in a public place. Best thing to do is keep your cool and remain calm.
