Brother HL-2040 Laser printer
Please help, My local Fry's Electronics store has this laser printer on sale for under $100.00. Will this meet the needs of receiving edocs? Please give me feed back on the pros and cons before I spend my money. I did a search and nothing on this model. Thanks in advance for any help.

You might want to look into something similar to: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1334673&CatId=244
Copy and paste the link in the address bar of your IE
Ones under $100.00 do not fulfill the edocs req.

I just ordered a Dell 1700. It was only $185 with FREE shipping. A friend of mine that is in the business uses this model and the docs look great and it's fast.

Thanks for your quick reply, I check with Fry's and Office Depot and the Brother 2070 has PCL 6 which is what the edocs requires. The original one 2040 does not. Thanks again.

The 2040 does not have PCL emulation, so it would not be a good choice for e-docs.

What is PCL emulation? This is the printer that I've got, now I'm afraid I made a bad purchase. ??? I've been emailed docs once and it seemed to work fine.

PCL is "Printer Control (or Command) Language". It was developed and is owned by HP. It is the language printers understand, like English or French. Since it is owned by HP, all others emulate it. You don't need it to print PDF documents, which is probably why you haven't run into any problems yet. But, if you get docs to print from a web site, or are sent files that are in PCL, you won't be able to print them, since your printer wouldn't understand the language.
