I think the NEW question we should ask...

the signing companies is..."how many pages are in the package?" I just had one call and ask me to do a first and second, in the town next door, and we agreed on a fee (which was $25 less than I would've quoted-but I didn't have anything else tonight) So I get the package (and yes I asked if it was an Ameriquest and its NOT even) but the first was 139 pages and the second was 156 pages. That is WITHOUT the borrowers copy. I emailed back and told her that I wouldn't do it for that price and that it would be another $120 for me to print 295 pages and 295 for the borrower. That is a joke!

I normally do not respond to anonymous posters, but this question has been raised numerous times.

The answer almost always is, "why would you ask the SS?" Typically, the SS has no idea as they do not get or see the packages. The docs are sent/emailed from the lender and/or title company. And quite often, an SS doesn't even know it's a double, 1st & 2nd with 2nd funding to the first, or whatever and however the docs are prepared.

Sometimes, good SS'es know the approximate size from dealing with certain lenders and title companies over some period of time. But don't expect a scheduler to be able to tell you how many pages will be in the package.

That's why I'm not using SS as filler work anymore. It's a joke. They need to know their job better then before they work it. I hope they all go out of business. All they do is take notaries money anyway. I'm sorry but scanning docs to make sure they're correct is not worth half or more. And if the notary can't get the job done correct then the companies will stop calling and it's the circle of life. The weak or lazy are eliminated. I hope every notary starts charging the SS MORE than the Title companies and then just think of how we could change the industry and make what we're worth.

I agree totally. SS are a big rip off to notaries. They get paid $150 and up and try to pay us way less then 1/2 and we are the ones doing all ( and I mean all) of the work. Between printing docs, the high price of gas now, and so on, I am too through with signing services. Not to mention they almost want your first born just to contract with them.

bravo JJ I agree...

I think that if there were some way to get ALL the notaries to band together they would realize that we CAN make a difference if they STOP accepting the low fees. This was NOT a low fee. I was charging them $150 plus $25 for the docs. So to get that they must have tried other notaries and had somewhat of the same response.

BTW..they emailed me and said thanks but no thanks we found another notary.
Bet $100 they get pissed when they print the package and go though 590 pages for a tiny fee.

to all notaries

I think that we should all ban together and stop bad mouthing other notaries on forums and web sites such as these. I think that this business is a great business to make either extra money or an incredible full-time venture. Its all you notaries that complain and gripe and moan and groan that make the industry bad for everyone else. Do your job! Stop complaining! Stop bad mouthing each other! The ONLY reason we should use these forums is to keep each other informed about the companies out there that don't pay. Otherwise....keep the remarks to yourself. One who bad mouths others... makes himself look the worse. Get it together people!

Not all SS are the same. There are good ones and there are the other kind.
And a lot of title companies will not work with the notaries directly, they just do not have the time to call a different notary for every loan they have. It is much easier for them to send a list of loans that need signing agents to a signing service and let them do the "legwork" of finding signing agents for the loans.

As for the size of the packages, a lot of times the title company does not even know that, especially with edocs where the lender send the link to download and print the docs, and the title company just sends the title docs.

Re: Sylvia -query

Sylvia,

With respect to title companies, you mentioned "it is much easier for them to send a list of loans that need singing agents to a signing service........."

My question is which entity is it that sets the time and date of the appointment? I had a situation recently where I had two appointments scheduled for this past Saturday - both HELOC's and both with the same signing company. And they were dealing with a bank. And when I called nobody knew that a signing appointment had been set for that day or that time!! So who was it that normally contacts the borrowers and sets up an appointment that is convenient for them? In these circumstances would it be the bank or would it be the signing service? My initial impression was that it was the bank, as they were the ones that had been in contact with the borrowers. TIA

Re: Sylvia -query

It depends.

Sometimes the LO when talking to the borrower will ascertain a time that is convenient for the borrower, sometimes the title company sets the time.

Most of the ones I get the signing agent is able to set their own time with the borrowers. There are occasions when a time is indicated on the order form I get from the title company.

Good luck. The answer you will hear is ...

... "I don't know. I haven't gotten the documents yet."

Some NSAs have in their Profile (or on their Site, as the case may be) "edocs $aa.00 to n pages, $bb.00 from p to q pages, $0.cc per page over q pages."
