For those of you who are unacquainted with the many facets of Texas, there truly is a Dimmit County in our great state. The high school football team is known as the Dimmit Dimwits, the school faculty is known as Dim Bulbs, and law enforcement officers are universally known as dimmers. The most active spot in town is the Dim Sum Diner, known far and wide for its dumplings.
Dimmit County acquired its name from Californians who immigrated to the area to avoid tsunamis, earthquakes, and pornographic movie producers. As we all know, when it comes to being literate, Californians make good doorstops for the doors to the library restrooms. Recognizing that in migrating to Texas, the Californians had lowered the IQ level in both states, the original intent was to name the county "Dimwit County." The immigrant California printer, however, could not tell the difference between an "m" and a "w"; thus the county wound up being named "Dimmit." The printer had the same difficulty with an "n" and a "u", which is why, in some older printed material, you will see the region referred to as "Dimmit Couuty. The state finally stepped in and forced a correction of that.
You will, though, still see the county seat referred to as "Carrizo Sbrings."
