On obtaining tax id number

Just fyi, if trying to obtain TIN call the Federal Business info #(800)829-4933 directly.

I tried to obtain it online through a service which cost $9.99 and kept getting an "error"

sign. Still got charged the $, but learned a lesson well worth it. I called the number

above and waited a short while and obtained the number with a live person for FREE.

You may consider a TIN to protect your social security number.

On another note, read this board daily and appreciate the valuable info provided!

Quick and simple EIN

Just go to the IRS website and fill out the EIN information. It's free and only takes a few minutes to get your number.

Thanks ERNA_CA,

Doing my research and reading this board regularly before I start out.

Great info here and many are exceptionally helpful.

I'm sure all of us "newbies" appreciate it.

Thanks

Why do we need the EIN, any other reason besides protecting our SS#?

Thanks,

Greg -

That's the main and most important reason for using an EIN. It also serves to separate your business and personal accounts for banking, tax filings, etc.

Erna says:

***We were all newbies once.***

I was never a newbie. I was a beginner, a neophyte, a tenderfoot, a novice, a tyro, an abecedarian, a greenhorn, a novitiate, even a trainee, if you will. I was never a newbie. What's more, I will never be a newbie; there is no power great enough to impress upon me that most repugnant of labels. When age -- or a really irate husband -- finally catches up to me, and I go that that great discussion group in the sky, I will go as a celestial beginner, a neophyte, a tenderfoot, a novice, a tyro, an abecedarian, a greenhorn, a novitiate, even a trainee, if you will. I will never ever go as a newbie.

Did you ever appear on the tv show M*A*S*H* as Charles Emerson the third?
