Passed my exam!!
I just wanted to let you all know that I passed my exam! Over a month ago, I posted a message needing advice on how to study for the exam. And pretty much I was told to study the handbook! Well that is what I did! I was so nervous when I walked in April 2 for the exam, and sat next to a lady who talked my ear off....she said how she had failed the test the first time...she paid for a course and failed...then she proceeded to go on about how the test was harder than she expected...blah, blah, blah......by then I was pretty much contiplating when I would be able to take the next test assuming I was bound to fail since I only spent a week studying and this woman took a course and failed!
Any way...the test was a breeze....I was pretty confident after I finished, but you just never know, so today I logged in and got my results! Thanks for your advice!!!
Now as so many of you have suggested for "new comers" I will begin reading the post from beggining to end while I wait up to 8 weeks for my commission! Also, since I will do most notorizing for loan docs, do all recommend a "loan doc signing" class or is that a scam like the "Notary test prep" classes?

Hearty congratulations!
Success stories such as yours show that people who are willing to STUDY don't need to pay for high-priced courses! You should be very proud that you did it yourself. With your attitude you will continue to be successful, and be an asset to the profession.
I sincerely wish you the best of luck in your career as a notary public.

Congrats and welcome to the world of Notary. OK, now your honeymoon is over. Looking for work with signing companies will be a dauting task along with getting paid once your signing is done. I have been a notary since Aug. 04, did signings for the loan company I worked for and would get paid at closing like everyone else. But, then I started signing up with SS and thought it would be the same with delays according to the the contract. It is such a headache, faxing, waiting, rushing, printing, calling, etc., trying to show that you did the job they called you for (mostly at the last minute). I am just about to give up on SS and just work independently for brokers and escrow companies. SS suck.
Good luck to you.

Re: Passed my exam!!
This is a big thing, Melissa! Congrats! Good going!
I took a Loan Signing Class at the NNA Conference in San Diego in 2002...it was extremely helpful for me.
NO SCAM IN MY BOOKS.

Re: Passed my exam!!
Melissa,
YES, You should take a class in "loan signing". Even if you are somewhat familar with the loan process, the NNA class puts the two together. I was a loan officer for 15 yrs, but never a notary until a year ago. I took the home study course, test on-line and I learned alot and at my own pace...You should also continue to study the notary Public laws doe our state specifically so you can be more at ease with things that WILL come up. I am sure others might have "classes" they can recommend as well.
Congrats on your test! Where in Cali are you? I'm in Northern, Mendocino County. Cheers, Marla

Re: Passed my exam!!
I must disagree with Stephanie. I recently was able to review the NNA Signing book and have to say it is worse than I expected(and I wasn't expecting much ). It consists of 3 parts, part 1 is notary review, part two VERY limited info on signing, and part 3 is notary review. To me that says something about their notary classes also. Why so they need to spend so much time reviewing "Notary Public Principles and Practice" if they did such a good job teaching it the first time? There may be some good classes out there, but IMO, the NNA is not one of them.

Re: Passed my exam!!
Thanks for all the good advice. Very much appreciated. I live a small town (Taft, CA) and a friend of mine does loan mortgages and that is the main reason I am pursuing becoming a notary public. Have a great day!
