Vital Signings (requested information)
Good morning everyone!
I just received an e-mail from Vital Signings to sign up with them. I e-mailed the contact person back in the e-mail and told her that unfortunately the information she was requesting I was not willing to provide. They wanted my SS card, drivers' license and a my car insurance policy (said something about their attorney requires the proof of insurance be shown). I have never heard of such information being requested. I told her in my response that if such personal information was required then unfortunately I would not be able to assist Vital Signings with any of their closings. It will be interesting to see if (and what kind of response) I get back.
I just wanted to see what others thought of this situation and this type of information being requested. I could even see possibly sending my license and marking my driver's license number out if necessary but come on a copy of my social security card and my car insurance policy.

You decide if you want to send the info All I can say is that they are very honest and reliable , and I do not believe that they would misuse your info A w-9 should work as to SS#( I have not seen my card in years) Block out a few #s on your dl Most ins cos will provide you with proof of insuranse as reqd by your state. That form should be sufficient.

PS
It is getting tough out there, and it is going to get worse before it gets better I would be thinking of figuring out ways to work with good companies, instead of finding reasons not to. Just a thought

Re: PS
I would work with them, but I couldn't pass their test. I have sent out personal information inculding copies of insurance and what not to several agencies, and I didn't think it was a big deal. I would suggest if you are concerned about your credit there is a service that watches your credit report, and notifies you when someone runs your credit. I have it, and so far (thankfully) I haven't had any problems, but it does feel safe having it. They also send quarterly CR as part of the service. Your banking institution can provide you with further information.

Will some SS tell me WHY they think they need this, please?
They have a W9...WHY the SS card copy? We're Independent Contractors...responsible for our own costs/liabilities,etc... so WHY Proof of Auto Ins. Ditto Drivers License. With Identity Theft being sooo prevalent--and as an SS, they gotta know this fact, WHY do they wish to expose us--and themselves-- to this possible misuse of (unneeded) info? I don't want to hear the deep pockets theory--the Indepent Contractor agreement gets them out of that! Any reasonable reason?? Waiting to hear it.

Re: Will some SS tell me WHY they think they need this, please?
I have an EIN No., so I don't provide a copy of my SS Card; for proof of insurance, I made a copy of the "proof card" that my Ins company gives me, not a copy of the policy itself, that's none of their business.

Re: Will some SS tell me WHY they think they need this, please?
I provided a copy of my SS card with the number blocked out and my EIN number written beside it. I too also provided a copy of my insurance card. The drivers license number was also blocked out. The one I can't believe are the SS's that request a copy of our stamp. I always write in that it is against the law in California for me to place my stamp on any document that I am not personally notarizing. I also include that the copy of my commission certificate is the legal equivelant. I can only imagine they are asking for these to make sure we are who we say we are.
