first Notarization ..stamp problem.2 probs help !!

My daughter is married to a Marine and I Notarized some paper work for a request for divorce, and the stamp went right thru the page onto the other side where I was also stamping (notarizing).

Will they accept that?

I cant help it if I have a good stamp and the paper is not thick.....if they send her back with another form ..it will just do that again if it's the same thin paper??!!

Also..on the first page I stamped it did not completely cover and the date of expiration was so light you cant see it.

So these 2 probs on my first time..ugh !!

I am wondering if this has happened to anyone where the stamp was so good it went right thur paper and did they accept it?

Also..what if you stamped it and it did not come out clear some of it was hardly seeable?

Practice with your stamp (shred the paper when done) to see how hard to press so that it won't go through the doc.

You may get that document back. If it's a problem, attach a loose certificate to it, if permitted by your state. Post with your Name/State as the Author to get accurate answers that will apply to your particular state.

If you can't see the date of expiration, you don't have a complete notarization. Cross it out and restamp. If there's no room, attach a loose certificate.

In your state, is it proper....

...to be notarizing for your daughter? Especially since it was the type of document it was, I would have gotten another notary.

Just a thought.

Re: In your state, is it proper....

My thoughts exactly Joan!
In Florida it cannot be done.

I ran across a husband once who notarized documents for his wife. He said that as she kept her maiden name when they got married, then they wouldn't know it was his wife because of the different names!! Sheesh!

Even when it is permissable to notarize for a relative, it is often best not to, could lead to problems later.

I completely agree. It's just too easy for something like that to look suspicious and I wouldn't do it.

daughters notarized forms

yes, I agree about the notarization..and I wasn't quite sure if I would do it when first asked..There was no financial connection..you cant notarize it if it affects you..but there was another reason, and cant say, but I would not do it again..just in case !!

She hasnt returned yet, so not sure they accepted it, but will find out soon.

Thanks for your input as I am new and need all the advice I can get !!

Please choose a name and stick to it. Include ...

... the two-letter abbreviation for your state as part of your name on this Forum. It will help people help you by giving advice suitable for your state.

With the other notaries, I would not notarize for a family member. Period.
