printer
I am going to buy a laser printer this week. I consulted with a HP sales individual, he informed me that the machine that I should get will cost 599 plus an additional 270 for service contract and taxes. The machine he stated I will need is a 2240 or something like that. The machine has dual trays and is a laser printer. Any advise? He states I could get a less expensive machine but because I want a dual tray machine it becomes pricer.

Paul/Fl can help you much better. But you do not need such an expensive printer. I have the HP2100 - which I bought several years ago for around $600 - and now you can get them for around $300. There are other HP printers that you can get dual trays with for a reasonable price. Of course the salesman wants to sell you a higher priced model - more commission for him.

I got a Brother HL 5140 from Staples for about 4 or 500, don't remember exactly and bought the 2nd tray for another 100 off the internet. Check their prices. Pays to shop.

I bought my HP 2200D off of cheaphpprinters.com for $310 + tax, a refilled hp compatible toner cartridge for $55.80 + tax. The printer is refurbished. The 2200 comes with a single tray but you can add another tray either a 250 or 500 sheet. I got a 250 off Ebay for $55 including shipping. Im happy with it so far. It pays to shop around and check out Ebay for sure.

I just bought a HP 1320 tn dual tray on E-Bay for $450. It is a pl 6 something like that. Do not buy any contract with HP. You don't need that. There is a one year warranty anyway. You can also shop at Office Max or Office Depot for this printer for 499.00 the dual tray is include. I love it!!!

Re: Another comparable option
Another option to consider is purchasing an HP 1320. I did several weeks ago. It is much more compact than the HP 1320 tn dual tray. And also cheaper. I think I paid $399 with a $100 rebate at OfficeMax (0r was it Office Depot? Oh well....) And then it is my understanding that you can purchase an additional tray on Ebay. Haven't done that yet though.

Re: Another comparable option
Ted, et al,
The HP Laserjet 1320 is does not support an additional tray. In other words, the 1320 is not upgradeable to a 1320tn model. The 1320tn utilizes a different chassis to house two input trays.
I still recommend the 1300 with the optional second tray. Though HP has discontinued the manufacturing of the 1300, there are some that still can be found in the box or refurbished.

Jay:
I purchased an Hp 2300L about 3 years ago from Fry's in CA - the cost $459.00. 2 Trays - the tray for legal paper simply opens from the front & I didn't buy the service contract. I flip down the 2nd tray and place the legal paper there for printing. The letter tray holds 250 sheets while the legal holds 100 sheets. ***Be careful what the Hp Sales Person informs you to buy; re,member, he is there to make a living. I'm sure you can find a laser printer for less.
