printer

My husband bought $500 H7410 printer, (ink jet )months ago for me. Can't return. I read in the threads that laser is necessary. It prints much nicer than my laser. I have searched the threads about this and cannot find specific answer. Is it just advisable to have a laser because of the cost per page, or is it because of the clarity, or is it mandatory requirement for signing companies? My laser is a Brother MFC6550MC

with the ink jet you will be replacing the cartridges alot more than a toner on a laser, also the laser will be ALOT faster to print docs, you will wish you had a laser when your trying to print a piggyback, with 2 compies and your pressed for time like always.

Laser is required by law here, I guess because it cant be erased or smudged like inkjet..

SL, Do you know where you found out it was a law in CA? I may have to cancel some email signings. Is there a place you can refer me to that states the law. Thanks.

Inkjet is not considered permanent

It was explained to me that inkjet ink over a period of time will crack and flake off the page because it is not sprayed onto the page, unlike a laser where the toner is actually fused to the paper. If you think your inkjet is permanent, just put a drop of water on what you have printed. PS not to mention that inkjet lack the PCL languages that will be required to print loan packages.

Before finding this site I made the mistake and bought an expensive inkjet printer. Now having read everything I could find here I don't want to make a mistake again. My thoughts are to go with a HP 132Otl but they are very expensive and I am just getting started. I can get a new Brother MFC8220 for only $200 and then I would have to buy another tray. What do you think?

Good starter is the brothers 5140. About $200 and will do a good job, including e-docs since it's PCL6 complient. Can refill cartridges - 3500 pages on cartridge that comes with it.
Forget the 2nd tray. Don't really need it. (some people say otherwise).
Print all on legal (unless docs are in several files then if a file is all letter, then print that on letter). Myself, I check the DOT [and riders] for size, if it's letter, I print it seperately. Rest goes on legal.

JMHO.

It seems to be mandatory. The longevity of laser printed documents is far greater than inkjet. That alone would seem to put into the category of mandatory.
