I've never had to notarize a HUD. Sounds strange. Who called you (title company, signing service, borrower?) and do you have contact information for them?

It was the borrower. Not a title company

I suggest calling them back and telling them notarizing a HUD is unusual. Ask them to fax over the document to you for you to review before the appointment. Examine the document and see if there is a jurat or acknowledgment on the form. If not, contact the borrowers and ask if they would like you to provide a jurat or acknowledgment form at the time of signing. Maybe you can get a feel for who you're dealing with and if they are on the level.
If they can't forward you a copy of the HUD ahead of your scheduled meeting time, ask them for the contact information of the person requesting that the HUD be notarized. Contact that person and verify that it is indeed a HUD statement which needs notarization and whether or not the document the borrowers have in hand has the jurat/acknowledgment attached.
Good luck!

Notarize the HUD? I would call him back and get the scenario...some companies will have the borrowers find their own notary, maybe he already signed everything and sent it in and they changed the HUD and sent it to him, it doesn't need notarized, just witness his signature...It could be on the up&up, but call and get the particulars. I'd be interested to hear the outcome.

When in doubt, don't. I do adhere to the adadge though, that oversigning is better than undersigning.
