ACME NOTARY

I learned a valuable lesson today, after being in the biz awhile.
I got a call to do a job way out in the middle of nowhere in early June. I spent two hours looking for residence only to find out that the borrowers didn't receive the docs (1st lesson, call the borrower before going out). 2nd lesson, get the name of (the then sweet person at Acme) person you talk to at the signing company and have them send you out a new signing order for the 2nd trip (I did talk to someone at the signing company. I told them I was lost, and then we laughed when she told me that the docs weren't there anyway). I found the borrowers that night anyway, and apologized for being late due to being lost, and she re-iterated that the docs had not been received. We made a tentative appt. for the next day, when docs presumeably would be there. The docs did arrive and I did do the signing...in Spanish no less (which takes 2 times as long by the way)

I billed Acme for my fee plus a trip charge. They paid the signing fee (they didn't even call me to ask why I had charged a trip fee), guess they didn't look at the invoice (right there they could have called the title company to get paid for my 2nd trip fee), but no.....

I faxed them one mo. later, regarding my 2nd trip fee, no answer, again on 7/13/05 then wrote to their accounting dept. then faxed on 7/19/05 again!!! Yet they said I never notified them of a 2nd trip fee (because their records never showed I did).

Okay so the owner of Acme,Brian said because they don't have record of this 2nd trip (even though I'm telling him I did) and the borrowers know I did, and the title company knows I did, Acme Notary doesn't know. He said he can't pay notaries for a 2nd trip just because they call and tell them they made a 2nd trip...so I asked, truthfully how many calls do you get from Notaries asking to be paid for a trip fee, he says "quite a bit". Well, if you are getting calls from Notaries for 2nd trips then....could there be a glitch in their system??? or perhaps the Notaries are dreaming they went on 2nd trips.

I got nasty (never swore at him, just raised my voice) and after going round and round I hung up on him (bad thing to do and Brian, I'm sorry). He did call back and offered to pay me because he didn't want me to void my seal, (not because he felt it was the right thing to do or that he believed me, but because he didn't want any reprecussions from my voiding my seal, someone told me I could, but after checking I find out differently) but after all the turmoil and bad feelings I declined. Anyone who knows me knows what a conciencious, and kind person I am, who is willing to go the extra mile, but I got mad and made threats (regretfully).

I told him I would be writing this on Notary Rotary, and he said that signing companies were banning together, because Notaries often times slam them w/o due cause. I said good...maybe we can learn to work together.

So I am going to say this is my fault for not getting things in writing. Sorry I lost my temper and for making threats. Just want to vent. I'm not saying Acme isn't reputable, but when you find a good notary, then a trip fee is worth it (oops I dreaming again).

Angie

Aren't they the company formerly known as "What's Up Doc" that sends out rubber checks?

Did a little bit of research... Brian, is a convicted felon. Stacee, his wife. Is the notary. And according to the Sec of State of Calif. She is also listed according to them as the owner of 'What's Up Doc'. Brian's record can be seen on line as well free of charge. And a link is on a pervious message.
