A strange wedding
It is 1:07am and i have just arrived home!!!
I was all set to go to bed early tonight, but just after 11pm the phone rang. A notary/signing agent friend called me. She had a couple on the phone who wanted to elope tonight and needed a notary to perform the wedding! She, obviously racked her brains to figure out who would be crazy enough to go out this late at night to perform a wedding, and so she called me I was ready for bed, but am not one to stand in the way of true love, so I agreed to do it. I was to meet the couple in the parking lot of a 7-11 about 25 miles from here.
I met them there at midnight. Nice couple. I asked them did they really want to be telling their children later on when they have some, that they got married in the parking lot of the 7-11. So the bride asked if we could maybe go to the beach. So, we drove over to the beach at Patrick AFB, and I married them there by the headlights of their pick up truck!
That has to be one of the strangest, last minute weddings I have performed.

Sylvia...sounds like a case of true romance...or true foolishness.
For me, I opt for the true romance
(Makes for nice dreams at night )

The strange thing is the license had been valid since the 11th August, so I wonder what made them decide that late at night to use the license.
The groom asked me about the license after the ceremony. I told him I had to send it to the court house for recording. He wanted me to give it back to him so he could do it as he wanted to wait a month before having it recorded. I told him I was responsible for getting the license to the court house for recording and it had to be done within 10 days. He wanted to hold off, something about their health insurance. I told him it didn't matter when the marriage was recorded it would show the date of the marriage which was actually the 27th August - it was after midnight. So, he asked if I could wait until the 10 th day. Strange!

You don't have to be an ordained minister to perform marriages in Florida. Notaries Public have the authority to perform marriages in Florida. - only three states (Florida, Maine and South Carolina) allow Notaries to perform marriages, and there is also one parish in Louisiana.

My guess is he wants to wait a bit before it hits the marriages section in the local paper?

It will only hit the marriage section if he sends in a request to the local paper to publish it.
