After Your Notary Signature

I would like to clarify if I should or should not (maybe it doesn't matter) put Notary Public after my signature on acks and jurats?

In looking through my course materials, I did it sometimes on the practice pages and sometimes I didn't. I think I remember my instructor saying it didn't matter one way or the other but I am not sure.

I did look through the threads for the answer but I couldn't find anything (I could be putting in the wrong search words). However, I did find something (in the threads) that I did once that was wrong. So I learned something in my search!

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to read and answer. I sure learn a lot here.

I agree with your instructor - it doesn't matter. Adding "Notary Public" after my name in the "before me...name..." portion of the ack doesn't change anything about the validity of the acknowledgement. I think it's a matter of personal preference.

Thank you!

Thank you. That is what I was thinking too.
Have a great weekend!

Re: Thank you!

Just that some SS think it matters... Don't ask me why, I agree with you and TitleGal. It doesn't matter.

Re: Thank you!

I had a SS review my work, then tell me that I needed to write Notary Public next to my name and procceeded to writing in Notary Public herself as she was telling me that I needed to do it.

You mean to tell me the SS person was modifying your notary certificate!??! I don't think that's kosher, even in California.

Re: YEP!

I was sitting next to her as she was checking the docs, told me that Notary Public goes to next to my name and filled that part in herself, the ink was a darker than the pen I used.

There are a couple of other things she said too that I also didn't think was proper but I don't want to share too much in case she reads this.

In all honesty, I did forget one signature wich at first she said was fine since it was on a "junk" paper. The next day after she called the TC she said it should have been signed.

***even in California***

Well PAW...yes we do march to a different drummer in California, call it the effects of the 'shake and bake' syndrome.

Now and then we do get it right tho - just like my broken watch is right two times a day Smiley

Different **drummer**??? Sometimes I think y'all march to a whole different **band**!! Smiley (In a good sense, of course.)

Re: Thank you!

Sounds to me like she was either A) green herself; or B) had a confidence/ego problem; or C) into unnecessary criticism (also a ego/confidence problem); or D) amazingly anal - evidenced by "writing in Notary Public herself". Don't sweat the small stuff or small people.

Re: Thank you!

I am not going to. I am sure that there are plenty of more " interesting" experiences yet to come. :-)

I think it's a matter of preference. I put Notary Public after my name only if the wording does not state Notary Public in aforesaid state or something to that effect.
