Are gas stations running out of gas?

My neighbor was telling me she heard that gas staions are running low....

I filled up last night and the station that I use was closing early because they couldn't get any gas!!! So, let the prices rise and the lines begin...

Tried to get gas last night here in Michigan and there were at least 50 cars in line at Costco waiting to fill up. They were so far back that they may not have known that regular at $2.56 was sold out and they were waiting in line for premium for $2.79. In driving further I encountered at least five stations that were out of regular gas. Could only fill up for $2.99 a gallon. Still not as bad as I've seen on TV in New Orleans where cars were lined up for miles for one station.

my husband just called me here at work and told me that a guy he works with just got a call from his wife saying they have the go ahead to raise the price of gas to $3.26 a gallon. They shut one of the lines down where he works because of the propane cost.

I don't care if they put it to $50.00 a gal. I'm only buying $20.00 worth a week and then I'll walk!!!( or ride a horse) I'm sick of it! Gas here just went to $2.69 for reg. yesterday. Article on CNN says its going to $4.00 per gal. If I can get $20.00 worth that is.....

I heard on the news this morning that the president authorized release of reserve fuel so that there would be enough gas for all states. What this does to the price I don't know, but I also heard on the same broadcast that $4.00 per gallon will almost be assured.

just off the wire...

I just heard from the sprint rep in TN (knowville)(when calling to increase my minutes) that Knoxville is completely out of gas and that his wife said that people are driving an hour to their town to fill up.

What is this? The end of the world or something?

Re: just off the wire...

Not really...just an adjustment. We've had rationed gas before. Perhaps that is where this will go.

Re: just off the wire...

Tapping the reserve won't help, because too many refineries are down and we can't refine the crude we have. Need get the refineries fixed first. Cheapest gas in Victorville, CA today is 2.85 up 14 cents overnight. Buckle up and hold on, we are in for a wild ride. Won't be doing any signings for under 85 dollars unless I can walk across the street to do it.

Give it a day ....

I am in Southern California where the gas is usually 15 cents cheaper than the north. My relatives in the northern part of the state are at 3.09 - 3.15 in the metro areas and higher in the boonies.

I think its too many SUV's on the road. 5-10 years there weren't so many suv's. I say lets go back to driving small cars again.

Re: Give it a day ....

According to a CNN story that I just caught.....there is a pipeline in LA from a refinery that supplies 75% of the gas to GA and a large portion of gas towards the northeast.....Katrina has completely shut this down. This was the reasoning they gave for the increase and they expect $4.00 per gallon by tomorrow. Watching to see if we are going to tap into any of the reserves for some relief.....until then....keep it full to beat the next increase!

I just topped off my tank at $3.29 a gallon. Yesterday, we were at $2.67. I'm in northwestern Indiana. I've also heard that by the middle of next week we can expect to see $5.00 per gallon.

I live just outside Sacramento, I just paid $2.69 a gallon, regular unleaded. The highest I've seen was a little over $3.00. Cost me a little over $30 to fill up my tank.

Re: Give it a day ....

I filled up at an Arco in Studio City today at $2.79. Not much worse than it was a few days ago, but I figured better safe than sorry.

Betsy,

Premium at 2.79 a gallon was a bargain !! I have driven around a lot today, and regular seems to be running from about $3.15 to $3.35 a gallon.
