Borrower wanted to sign in between clients
Yesterday afternoon I was assigned a closing for last night, no docs yet and time was TBD. I had another signing in the early evening and when I was returning from that signing I was called that this other closing was going to take place but still no docs. I arrived home at 8:00 and docs arrived at 9:30! I kept asking the TC if the borrower was okay with this time (this was a purchase with 200 docs for borrowers to sign) they assured me borrowers were fine.
Once all docs were received I called the borrower and he was MAD, he said you were surposed to be here at 8:00, I explained to him that the time was not determined and that the docs just arrived. He did not want to sign until this am. I am fine with that but then he told me that it will take several hours for this to be completed because he will be working and has several appointments set up with clients and that he will see me in between each client.
I have 3 more signing for today and I do not have hours to spend with the borrower this morning. I don't mind it taking awhile to do a signing but for me to sit and wait for him between clients seems unfair. I also have other closings and I am afraid this could overlap, how should I handle this? This is a new SS for me and they have come highly recommended so I don't want to blow it but I do not want to sit and wait all day for this man to sign.
Any advise is welcomed....

Offer to come back later when he is not with clients. Put it out there, it could just save your day (not to mention his!)

Nancy I think I would notifiy SS of situation. Then I would contact br and ask when he has time for this signing to be completed without intruption(sp?). I would give him options that fit into your schedule for appointment times. I would explain that I wouldn't want to miss any documents that would slow things down etc. No way would I sit and wait for him in between his appointments. I wouldn't think that the SS would expect that from you either. Beverly

i had to read your post twice to figure out if it was tongue in cheek. No wonder the signing agencies call with such high expectations for so little money! Weren't your documents date sensitive? This is another example of an agency/title having the notary take the fall for being late, when they don't have their end close to being done, and dont keep you or the borrower in the loop. I hope you charged more for such a ridiculous request

This borrower was really mad at ME because in his mind I was the one who didn't show up at his scheduled closing time of 8:00 PM. Even though I explained to him that it was never scheduled for that time (at least with me) and that I just got the documents, he really doesn't understand. (They never do) He was very sarcastic to me and very annoyed. He said well you can meet me at my job tomorrow morning but I have a lot of clients to see so YOU will HAVE to wait for me to sign in between clients. I have a feeling he will purposely make me wait all day long. I have a call into the borrower and the SS but no call back yet. The problem is that I only have this morning, from 12:30 on I am booked through to this evening with my last appointment at 6:30 in another city.

When the SS calls you back, just tell them that the borrower wants to reschedule for the next morning and you are not available then.

Call borrower and state you need to set an appointment as you too have a schedule to maintain. If you and the Borrower are unable to do this advise him that this will need to be reassigned to another SA, as you are unable to accomodate a 2-4 hour signing.
I agree with sylvia, Call the SS and advise of situation.

Did you call the borrower to let him know you wouldn't be there until you got the docs, printed and you were waiting for the TC to send them to you? When I get one that is in two hours or so and I am waiting for docs, I let the borrower know what is happening. I also tell them I will call them as soon as I get the docs printed so they will have some idea when I will be there. In 5 years, keeping them informed like this let's them know that I am also sitting around waiting for someone to finish their job, I have never had one mad at me.

I always call the borrower as soon as I get the confirmation email to explain the situation. This way the borrower will know that I have no control over the documents arriving. Often borrowers think ou are an employee of the mortgage company and I explain that as well. I agree that you need to call the SS and let them handle it with the borrower/lender. They get their cut so that should be part of their Job. Often the lender will call the borrower and clear up the situation.
Did you get an OK to do the signing today. If the docs are date sensitive that may be an issue.

I can't believe that you're even considering this. There is going the extra effort to impress a client and then there is being a chump. If you let him keep you hanging around for hours while he runs in and out, you'd definitely fall into the latter category.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. What other industry would allow themselves to be treated this way? Do you think a plumber would agree to this kind of appointment? A cable guy? A cleaning service? Heck no. Why are so many signing agents so willing to allow themselves to be treated like the borrower's bitch?
So what if the borrower is annoyed at you? If you didn't have the docs, you didn't have the docs. I don't know why you waited until you DID get the docs before you called the borrower, you would have at least known he was expecting you at 8:00 and could have called him to reschedule when the docs never showed up.
If you talk to the borrower again tell him that waiting for him between appointments is not an option. If he refuses to schedule a different appointment time, call the signing service, tell them to find someone else to do the signing and send them a bill for the edocs.

Having in been in similar situations one too many times, I have made it policy to always contact the br as soon as the appt. is assigned to let them know that I am waiting on docs to arrive. CYA... CYA... CYA...
That said, I would agree that contacting the SS to give them a heads up would be a good idea. I would not want to wait for the br and I would think the SS would not want you to wait either. Perhaps the br would be available later in the day to see you exclusively. Just make sure you CYA in case you can't get him to sign until after courier's last pick up of the day.

Tell SS you are unavailable for B's most convenient time. Yeah, I know, you lose money; but once you get into a 'he said/I said' situation, you don't win. Besides, this B is gonna make your life miserable; you already know that. Take the hit this time and maintain good relations with the SS.

When you talk to the SS if they reschedule and the Docs are still good you may want to offer to have the other reassigned notary pick them up from you. You should still get paid for printing them.
