Brother 8440 Help Please

I just bought my 8440 yesterday and was getting ready to install software, does anyone know what the PS driver is and the Native Brother driver is and would it have anything to do with the PCL6, I called Brother Support and he didn't even know about the PCL6 driver, he said I would have to go download it. Isn't the PCL6 driver already in the software or do I need to dl it, it seems like the people on this board know more about this printer then the manufacturers! Your help is much appreciated!
Thanks

I haved a Brother8840D this machine is one up from your 8440, so I am familiar. You just need to install the software that came with the machine. You do not need to download any additional software, unless of course there are ever any updates. PS is post-script, and it can print post script documents as well as the PCL language documents.

I am going to get this machine as a back-up. It is a great deal at Costco for only $369. Also you might want to try the additional paper tray. (LT-5000) Once I figured out how to call up the second tray by setting it up in the properties, it works like a charm. What is also nice about both of these machines is that the scanning glass is Legal sized. Many machines don't have this feature.

Please ask if you have any further questions. Have Fun!

Thanks for your reply Mrs. K I appreciate the info. What you're saying is what I thought all along, I hope the software was installed properly because I was on the phone with Brother and he had me dl PS saying it was the driver needed to run the PCL6 and he said that when I need to use the PCL6 feature I will have to switch printer defaults. I dunno that doesn't seem right to me. Does anyone know of a sight where you can download docs to see if the PCL6 is working?

Mrs K response is correct, PCL 6 capability is included with the regular software setup. Post Script option is another way of printing, primarily for Post Script formated item. Similar to having Adobe to print (.pdf ) files. Usually Brother technical/customer support are VERY knowledgable and helpful, I would call back on Mon. or Tues( slower day) and ask your questions again if it makes you more comfortable, This guy/gal was just blowing smoke. We all know about flakey answers don't we? (LOL) Have a great weekend and enjoy your new machine.

ATT: Brother printer/MFC owners with 2nd tray

When using two trays to print, with LT5000 2nd tray, have you considered setting up tray1 to be LEGAL and tray 2 to be letter? I have, just on the thougt that it might take a little less time to drag legal from tray 1 to the print head, and LEGAL is what I print most. Probably save a whole second or two printing 150 pages (LOL), Maybe shorter path will prevent jams over time or buildup of paper dust inside, dunno, what say yee? Thoughts?

Hi fellow Brother owner, I don't have the second tray yet, also I'm new to this business. Wish could help you out and thanks for your response to my question!
