Certified copy stamp
I double as a signing agent and an escrow officer for an attorney. I need to find a stamp which states "This is certified to be a true copy of the original document" and have a line to sign my name on.
It has been too many years since I received my actual notary self ink stamp and am not sure where I would go anymore (besides here) to get another. I know some places offer other types of stamps such as what I am looking for. Does anyone know of them?
Otherwise I guess I will have to go to Office Max and just special order one.
Thanks!!

I would go to Office Max. I have had stamps made up from them. Lots of different kinds and sizes. You get what you need there without any hassle. Not expensive either.

Shannon, you can have a stamp made which says exactly that - just look in the phone book for stamp makers. The company that provided my notary stamp also makes other stamps, I always order from them.
I have a several of those certified and true copy stamps. If you need a sample, email me.

Check your local yellow pages, some stamp maker shops have same day service and they don't charge an arm/leg for it.

I have had them make up several stamps, and very pleased with them.

I trust that you are not using this stamp in an effort to notarise the "True Copy" as authentic, as this would be an act outside the legal abilities of a public notary. Just a point to consider thats all.

Where would you get that idea todaysok?
has nothing to do with the question posted. If you don't know what a certified copy stamp then ask.

It's simply an attempt to find out the purpose of the stamp. Since we know it's not something we use in notarial acts, I am curious to know the purpose. Now since TitleGal does something with title work it probably has to do with that. I'd like to know what. You can never know too much when it comes to the different aspects relating to our business.

A certified copy is a duplicate of an original document that is certified as a true copy by the officer having custody of the original. Michigan notaries are prohibited from issuing certified copies of public records or any other documents. Requests for certified copies should be directed to the agency that holds or issued the original. (The Definition From the Department of State MI) I hope you understand why I asked now.

Re: Shannon's in Virginia
One of VA notaries' powers is to certify copies of originals.

***A certified copy is a duplicate of an original document that is certified as a true copy by the officer having custody of the original.***
And that is exactly what an escrow *officer* is...the officer having custody of the original.

***Michigan notaries are prohibited form issuing certified copies of public records***
She never said she was issueing certified copies of public records, she said she was doubling as escrow and she is from Virginia, not Michigan.
*************************************************************
I guess tho...it might be easy to mis-interpret the original post if one didn't have some experience in escrow/title.

In Kansas, a notary is authorized to certify a copy of an original document. I must have custody of the original document, and make the copy from the original. I would then stamp it to be a certified copy, and sign it, or attach an attestation to that effect.

I got mine already made up at a store which specializes in do it yourself legal stuff, i.e. fill it out yourself quit claim deeds, poa's etc. That is also where I got my notary stamp from. Here in Las Vegas they are called "We the People"...check for a store like that in your area

gotta tell ya...I had a laugh over all this, especially the suggestion that someone was doing "something illegal and outside the role of notary to pass off a copy as authentic". C'mon now! Please read the first post - Shannon said she was doubling as an ESCROW OFFICER and needed the stamp.
Escrow IS the holder of original docs (not yet recorded, but still original docs). The stamp is used by EO's all the time and is stamped to copies of original documents in their possession. Clients in a transaction need certified copies for many reasons. If Shannon is an escrow officer she will need that type of stamp.
Again, Shannon, if you need a sample to provide to any stamp maker, just email me.
