Curiosity question - indian reservations

Just curious -

Since in many ways an indian reservation is treated as a seperate entity, in some case almost like a seperate country, are notarizing docs on reservations any different ? Any different rules?

That's a good question. It is my understanding, that only the federal government has jurisdiction over them, unless they have made a compact (agreement) with the state the reservation is in.

I haven't seen many differences. But this could easily vary by reservation.

The reservation nearest me has divided some of its land into land that can privately held. Plus they have set aside another portion that can be leased for enough years to have a house hold a few generations. They stopped zoning any new land to these areas years ago.

My signings have been in the privately held area. I have learned to verify the names with borrowers over the phone before printing eDocs. Many Indian women do not change their last names when they marry.
