Decisions, Decisions....
I did a signing yesterday in the late morning that took almost two hours. It was two separate loans (going back to two separate signing companies if you can believe it). Anyway, one of the companies said I could dispense with the fax backs if I could get the docs to Fedex for a Monday delivery. So that's what I did.
The other service faxed me about 20 pages on the loan, most of which were NOTICES TO THE NOTARY IN CAPITAL LETTERS telling me not to foget this, not to forget that, fax back almost the entire package AND to send the package WITHIN 24 HOURS OF SIGNING OR ELSE!
So, on this one, I had to make the decision of whether I should go all the way back home, fax back the 20 pages they needed OR go immediately to Fedex after the signing to make it in time for a Saturday pickup (which I barely made).
I chose to go directly to FEDEX for the Saturday pick up. So, I faxed the SS a note explaining the sitch, hopefully they'll agree with my decision! We'll see..

I am the owner of a Signing Service in Florida. I deal with a few companies who, in their instructions say, " Fax this and fax that " I tell my notaries to just get the package dropped. I contract with experienced notaries who know their business. I believe that alot of signing services want fax backs to be sure the documents have been executed correctly. Fax backs should not be required unless the loan is a purchase and needs to fund immediately, and in those cases, fax backs must be carried out. You as the notary should be told upon acceptance of the assignment, that these fax backs are required. www.loandocumentsnow.com

Thank you for that response! I was under the impression that the fax backs weren't so much a way to check if the signing was conducted properly, but so that they could get started on closing the loan while waiting for the original documents to come back.
Since this was a Saturday signing, I figured it would be best to just get the package back ASAP rather than wait until Monday. I hope the SS agrees!

The first few times a signing agent does signings for me, they are required to fax me the notarized pages. You would be surprised how many experienced notaries do not fill in the notary certificate correctly as per Florida requirements. I have had signing agents tell me they have been notaries for over 10 years and no-one has pointed out they were not filling out the certificates correctly.
Once their notarizations are flawless I do not require the faxbacks any more.

I do at least two signigs every Saturday and one of my goals is to always make it to Fed Ex on time. I rarely have an SS complain about not going through with the fax backs but then I explain to them the drof off cut off time and what time I ended the signings. Very few have pursued it past that.
