Fees for Signings
With gas prices now at 2.55 per gallon, I am second guessing myself on my fees. What would you charge for a signing that would be 100 miles round trip and I would pick up the docs at the title company and drop them back off??

Ok - they are not e-docs...you are picking up/dropping off...personally I would charge $150. for the signing and the distance. Although you may think '50 miles = 45 minutes'...Where I am, sometimes a 50 mile trip can take much longer because of the terrain and the 'available' routes. However, you really should negotiate the highest rate possible with the company. SS's are likely to offer less than TC's.

I'd charge $150 as well, assuming the title company is located locally or on the way to the signing. If I had to go more than 10 minutes out of my way to pick up and drop off docs my fee would increase.

You may want to decide your base fee for a signing. Calculate your gas milage. 100 miles @20 mpg = 5 gallons of gas at $2.55 totalling $12.75 for gas only. Your fee plus gas if you would like.

Don't forget auto insurance and maintenance prorated per mile.

The consensus on this board is that $1.25 per mile is a good figure to use when establishing a fee schedule.

Thank you all so much for your input. I like the idea of using a per mile fee as opposed to a flat fee per city or county.

I would not provide the signing. My maximum is 50 miles round trip.

Wow! There is still somewhere that sells gas for $2.55 per gallon? I filled up yesteday for $2.79 a gallon! Almost $60 to fill a tank that used to only cost $20! Ouch!
