First 'no sign'
Vesting on DOT was wrong - listed as Husband, married, sole and separate when they actually held title as H&W, joint tenants (they showed me their original deed). I suppose it can be chalked up as EOM frenzies and LO not paying attention to title report....OR borrower applied as sole/separate for loan...and didn't realize wife had to sign interspousal deed and go off title...
I want to sign them when docs are corrected so was going to charge $25 print fee and $25 trip fee. This SS has a wonderful rep...so want repeat biz.
Opinions on trip/print fee? Muchas gracias.

I can't see anyone being upaset at that. You did spend the time and you did go so I believe that by rights you are due the full, it is not your fault that the vesting was wrong. So under the circumstance I think you are offering a most reasonable fee. Best regards.

Want to encourage more calls from this SS...like I said they have a sterling rep from what I've read.
But if I don't get the next signing...$25/$25 could be too low...but willing to risk that for future work. Opinions welcome!!
(How's the view from the deck, Charles?)

That's a tough one. I know what you mean. You want to be fair to yourself, but you also want the extra biz from the SS. So I take it they don't have a policy about no-signs and print fees?
Personally, I would ask for the $50. But if you really feel like it's too much and don't want to risk alienating them, tell them $25 for the printing and you hope they can make up the other $25 when you get the next signing for this loan.
Just a thought. Good luck!

Don't be shy about this. Ask them if they will compensate you and how much. The better companies will, up to your full agreement. This has happened to me several times, and not only did they pay 100% and another 50% of original fee, but have become my steady Titles and SS. If they don't treat you well, why would you want to work with them again? This is an issue that I address up front now.

Re: First 'no sign' sounds generous to me! :-)
Jeanet, I have not asked them what they will compensate...only told them I would send a bill and they agreed that I should send a bill...just didn't say HOW MUCH. (Again, a very GOOD rep as a SS).
Yes, it should be addressed up front...I'm just the type that I don't address the negative...before the positive. I suppose it is 'best' to cover all your bases when you accept a signing, "no signs" included. I've learned something. Again this is a SS that has a fabulous rep. Dont want to mess it up!!

Re: First 'no sign' sounds generous to me! :-)
I've only had about five cancellations in my few years' doing this, and so far, none with e-docs. But of the five, only one called me back to reschedule for the same borrowers. Since I incurred no expense of printing, and all cancellations except one were made more than 2 hours before the appointment, I charged nothing.
I do understand and empathize with your desire to maintain good relations. However, based on my limited experience with cancellations and the low recall rate, if I were you, I'd go ahead and ask for the full $50.
Whatever your decision, good luck!

I agree with Jeanet. You fulfilled your end of the contract. It's possible you gave up another signing for this, especially at EOM. This happened to me before and the SS paid the full amount contracted, and they called me for the re-sign (for full price). Don't sell yourself short!

Thanks!! Truthfully I don't know what to charge, because I want the return biz - the input from you all is great, again, thanks much.

I'm thinking it doesn't matter what their policy is for no-signs and print fees...it's up to me to charge what I think is appropriate. For 45 minutes worth of time, I'm okay w/$50 just want to make sure I'm not out of line with industry standard. Thanks all for replying.

Title Gal, don't forget this works both ways, you want them to call you but it's important to make them aware that they need to call you. Your experience, knowledge and proffesionalism is a valuable asset.

My stance on this particular situation came about when my first cancellation occured at the table, and I had no idea what to expect from the Title Co. When I called them, their response was "You did your job". That is precisely how I view this situation now. I have noticed that at least one SS offers a cancellation fee of $25.00 for e docs! Time, gas, printing, time at the table.....this is not a fee, it is a tip!

Re: First 'no sign' sounds generous to me! :-)
I had a no sign since the lender did the docs wrong so I charged $35 for my no sign fee (I was there for quite a while making calls to loan officer) and they wanted to review the docs anyway, plus 5 cents/copy per page (since it was edocs), plus my mileage (it was 107 miles round trip) [e-mail address]/per mile (per IRS) which total invoice became $85.45 and they paid me and I was hired to go back w/corrected docs and they have hired me 2 times more since then. So turned out ok for me.
