Got my NNA membership renewal bill today....

and when I opened it, couldn't believe my eyes. The 'due date' was August 31st and the expiration date of my membership is mid Februay, 2006.

None of my magazine subscriptions want my renewal fee a full 6 MONTHS before it is due, or my triple A membership, or any other yearly memberships I have.... What the heck is that about? Is the NNA so strapped that they are billing 6 months in advance?

Don't ever order 'In Style'

They bill for renewals every two months. I kept paying it back in 2000... thinking that I had forgotten... and by the time I finally realized what was happening... I had subscribed until 2008.

I'm REALLY stylish now!

Uh...actually I did. Bought it just a few months ago from one of the kids selling mag subscriptions for their school...got tired of paying the cover cost at the grocerty store.

I'll be making sure I'm not also stylin for the next 3 years also....thanks for the warning!

Re: Don't ever order 'In Style'

Not only do they bill or renew 6 months early, they also lay a guilt trip on you about how they could save money on postage if you'd just renew early.

NNA Billing early

Well, I for one will not pay them until it is about thirty days out. The are also doing that for the E O insurance.

Re: NNA Billing early

This is a mistake on their part. I was sent an email about my renewal as well. I phoned them and they told me it was a mistake and that I wasn't to renew until next year as I just joined a couple of month ago.

Re: NNA Billing early

It's not a mistake, it's their standard operating procedure. They don't care about us, they just care about our money and are quite blatant about showing it.

Re: NNA Billing early

I got double-billed for E&O. When I called, they said they had me in the system twice, so they removed the one that hadn't yet paid. ;-)

This is not unusual

Most magazine subscriptions, not just In Style, will start sending renewal reminders out six months before expiration. The NNA is no different. It's a business just like a magazine subscription, so early renewal requests don't make them inept. If they can get people to renew early, it looks good on the books and it's good for the business. It's up to subscribers to keep track of their own subscriptions as to when they run out. I keep my subscriptions on a spreadsheet and compare the renewal notice to the expiration date. I never renew more than 1 month before expiration unless there's a special deal. You can't blame the NNA for trying to schedule their renewals so they can predict future income from members. As a SA, wouldn't it be great if our business was such that you could schedule signings for the same companies consistently in advance so you'd know that you had a steady stream of income at predictable intervals? It's no different for magazines or the NNA. It's just business.

Re: This is not unusual

It may not be unusual for you...But I call it bad business to bill every month and way in advance for EO insurance and for any service just subscribed. "It's just business" is a dodge I was warned about when I was about 10. Please send me $15.00, It's just business........

Unusual circumstances

I never received ANY renewal bills from the NNA(yes, I'm counting my blessings Smiley ). As a matter of fact, after my conversation with Mark Valera outlining my opinion of their deceptive and totally unethical advertising practices, as well as addressing the mountain of misinformation they give out, the only things I have received are the magazine and newsletter(and 3 adverts for E&O). I will not be renewing and told him as much when I spoke with him. Maybe they put me on a "Do not solicit, he sees through all our bull list". One can only hope!!!
