Help with getting my name out there
Hi, I am trying to sign up with as many companies as possible but I feel like I am spinning my wheels. Unfortunately, I am only available in the evenings and weekends. I know this puts a limitation on my signing abilities but I have only gotten 6 jobs in the past month. Any one have any suggestions for me?? Any help would be great! Thanks all

Become a premiere member on this site and use their list of companies to sign up with. Sign with vital signings also.

Vital Signings is a low paying company but they tend to deal with the newbies. But it's a start. Read down some posts for the last week and I think you will fins some options. Good luck!

Anonymous, you must be reading my mind, because i literally wrote a post asking who Vital was, and then erased it, to do a search----At the SAME TIME you must have been responding to your own post!!! Freaky, huh??? But, thank you soooo much for the info!!!

Thanks for the info. I did sign up with Vital, but they must not have a lot in my area. I have done a couple with JMT, notary connection, and a title company. All went very well. I am lucky that I have 6 years of the mortgage experience behind me making the docs up and sending them out to the notaries. At least when I go out to do signings the docs are familiar to me and I know the answers to the borrowers questions.
I am a basic member for this site, how does being a premier help me more?? Thanks again!

If you haven't signed up with at least 200 companies
You may have to get back to marketing. With every interest hike, the refi market shrinks. Unlike being employed by someone, self employement offers unique challenges. One of those is making productive work for yourself when no paying work is in front of you. Market yourself as many hours a day as possible, and soon your signings will overtake your marketing efforts. If you are new, check message 33255 and it's associated posts. There is a wealth of info there. You may want to consider supplementing your loan signing with some general notary work if the fees allowed by the State of CT are substantial enough. The premium memebership allows you to present a professional personal profile to prospective clients. Gives you access to their SS list with contact info. And gives substantial discounts for supplies, especially the hottest journal on the market. Best of luck.

There are a million more sites like these if you get out and dig. You have "some" downtime with your kids at home, plenty after they go to sleep at night. Make the most of it:-)

Shan Hang in there - you're not spinning your wheels. Like you, I only handle signings during evening hours & on the weekends. I complete about 28 signings a month on a part time basis, so don't think evenings & weekends limits you in any way. I work my "you-know-what" off, but that's the way it goes. Hang in there, Shan

Thanks for the encouragement. I am trying hard to land closings. I have signed up with lots of companies and am actually working off "fallguys list". It is great to hear that there is someone else out there making it the way I am trying too! Well back to the list and my fax machine! Kids are napping so have to make the time while I can. Sounds like you know the feeling. Thanks again Stephanie, it is just what I needed to hear.

Stephanie, how do you get 28 signings a month! I too, only do this part time. I have signed up with at least 150 companies. What am I doing wrong?????

Yep, Stephanie is correct about part-time being lucrative! I'm in Virginia and work only evenings and weekends and this month and last month I have been busy! I received more then 28 calls these past 2 months but couldn't take them all because of schedule conflicts.
I think there are many factors that play into the success of this business. 1st is the area you are in. I'm in the DC metro area so that sure helps me ALOT. It's a larger area and real estate is good here right now. 2nd. I actually cut my teeth on the $50 companys. People talk about them but in the beginning they are good because they give you experience, while at least putting some money in your pocket. Also, the fax backs are time consuming and a pain in the *sS, but sometimes they do help. In the beginning, I made small errors and being corrected through the faxbacks helped me to be more careful the next time. I became a better notary because of the faxbacks because I knew what to pay extra attention to in my closings. 3rd. Once you start getting work and you prove yourself to be a good notary then the same companies will call you over and over. (if theres work in your area). Good luck to you!
