High Speed Chase
Exciting day!
I saw a high speed chase on my way to the Bwr's house this morning. There was a older model Ford or Mercury followed by a Texas DPS, Local Police, Local Sheriff and two other cars with lights and sirens. Five cars in hot pursuit of one old jalopy, I kid you not! I was looking for the bwr's house with the son on the phone because Google steered me wrong with directions to the home. The "parade" came toward me and I had to jump a curb when I pulled over to avoid being hit by the guy who was being chased. He was in the oncoming lane. When I looked in my rear view mirror, they had really picked up speed and people were literally boiling out of the front doors of homes. My heart was up in my throat as I was thinking guns would be the next thing I'd see. Honest! And, then when I got ready to leave, Mr. Bwr told me to drive away fast, don't make any wrong turns leaving their home, and to keep my windows rolled up and the doors locked...but I'd probably be fine as long as it was early afternoon. Last night I had tried to reach the home of the bwrs with no luck.
This morning I had told the title company that I would not go until they got me a correct number because it was in a bad part of town. They had originally given me an incorrect number that I could not connect with. I think they thought I was being a drama queen--nope, just realistic and cautious about the part of town I was going to! When it comes out on the news tonight, or in the paper, I'll post the story as a follow up.
It was so much excitement, I had to come in and take a good nap to counter-act the adrenalin gush of feeling like I was about to get hit on the side of the narrow road we were on, or catch a stray bullet.

HAD AN EXPERIENCE MYSELF
I stopped in a local market to get something to drink because it was hot! When I came out of the store, I heard a woman screaming at the top of her lungs. It took me a minute to locate her, but by that time people were running to her and I saw a gentleman beating on the window of a car. Turns out an 80-plus year old woman driver had tried to back into a parking space, pinning another woman between the bumper of the first car and a truck. The driver just sat in her car and refused to back up. The victim's leg was crushed (she was hit hard enough to break the bumper of the car and had about 4"s of intrusion on the truck door). As a former paramedic, I knew what to do and stayed with the woman until EMS arrived. The victim was so greatful, I couldn't stop her from trying to hug me, although she did leave a set of finger prints and nail scratches on my arm. It made my day to have done something good. I went through the rest of the day with a smile. I know that doesn't have anything to do with the original story, but one of us was at the wrong place at the wrong time and one of us was at the right place at the right time. Sorry- hit the wrong key before.

Re: THAT IS REALLY A GREAT STORY!
You should be very proud of your self. You were in the right place at the right time, that is for sure.

Thanks ya'll. And, Lee...you are so right! How else would I ever find myself in a position to pretend I am Daisy Duke?

A few JD's on the rocks might help also!
I'm amazed that you are going to go back to that part of town after the bwr told you to drive away fast, don't make any wrong turns leaving their home, and to keep your windows rolled up and the doors locked and you would be fine as long as it was early afternoon. GOOD GAWD GIRL is it worth it! Tell the TC to either get the borrower(s) to meet you in a safer part of town or have someone else do it. We here on NotRot can't afford to have you "take a bullet" for the sake of the business. We would miss your great inputs to this forum!

That's really nice of you. Actually, I was leaving the bwr's house when I was told that I should not get lost, keep my windows up and drive fast to leave, etc. I will be extra careful about taking jobs in that neighborhood again. The house was as neat as a pin, and the people were very nice and very kindly toward their aging mother. But, no...I probably won't go back to that part of town again without an armed guard.

I'm so glad that you are alright Brenda. There are a few neighborhoods in the SF Bay Area that I wouldn't chance even in the day time... just not worth it. Was offered $250 to do signing at 10:00pm in a very bad part of town... had to turn it down. ;(

Re: High Speed Chase=hazard pay?
I wonder if some SS wouldn't mind tacking on say...$100 for hazardous duty?
Glad you're okay Brenda!

We've had a few in my neighborhood too. Kind of scary when you think about all the taxes you pay to live in a "good" area. I'm not too fond of taking jobs in so called bad areas. If I do take one, it has to be during the day. And as far as a notary having a boring job...no way. In the past three years I have experienced some interesting people!!!

Experiences
My brother in law had an experience. He can be a bit of a hot head so it wasn't until after the fact that he got freaked out. He was out of state on a job. He does signs for stores. He's outside in the parking lot of the store they were working on and he hears gunfire. Two guys run around the corner with guns and keep going. Then the cops come and asked which way they went, he pointed out the direction. He goes inside for a minute then back out. Two more thugs come around the corner with guns, flashing signs and say "hey homeboy what did you say to the cops?" To which he shouted back at them "I'm not your f'ing homeboy and I don't speak to the cops." The guys left. About a minute later he realized that he just cussed out two gang members with guns out and didn't end up getting shot in an seedy neighborhood. Then he started hoping nobody would follow him back to his hotel.
